check this out.... I've been building on this today.... the old cast iron grate in the fireplace cracked and broke..... So I built one that'll work . Ran out of daylight tonight.... but its pretty much done, just going to weld in some expanded steel on the bottom tomorrow, then coat it in old oil and set it on fire..... it will give it that nice dark black look

all those cheap (quality) cast iron ones are expensive..... this one cost basically nothing to build other than a couple hours.... and it will last forever.
