Here is my roommates time slip the first or second time we took his new stock 09 WRX to the track. ![]() Its very easy to get theses sort of times with a 09+ with a 4k launch. This is a good read, especially for the OP http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...take-road-test Last edited by BigDan; 12-11-2011 at 01:44 PM. |

I've got a 2003 WRX winter beater with now 164,358 miles and it still runs like a champ with only a couple of popping noises in the rear shocks.

the STI is for you the way to go, put aside that it has more performance over a WRX, but it looks better also. its for sure a very fun car on street, drag, dirt, and snow.

Um, it looks like EXACTLY the same. Ok, slightly larger rear wing, but both have a rear wing (5-door) and slightly lower ride height, but both have decent sized wheels (17 vs 18) and of course the wrx has the same body kit, hood, as the sti. I guess when looking at the brakes you'd notice a difference, but you gotta be looking real close. I can't tell any difference, whereas in the past it was obvious with the big wings, intercooler scoop and fancy wheels, these days not so much. I think that's another big plus for the wrx...it has "all the looks" of the sti with the wide-body kit that now comes on both.

This was over two years ago (10/09) and took place on truck night which was way before I purchased my 2011 GT500. That night I was racing my modded 1 ton Cummins in sig. BTW: I have stacks of 17 second time slips when racing my Shelby. There's no reason to continue to heat up the engine/ supercharger if I mess up a shift or a launch on a test and tune day. Now back on topic, but only if you are done randomly insulting one of my cars...... Last edited by BigDan; 12-11-2011 at 04:09 PM. |

Thanks for all of the replies. It's hard to argue $8k in savings. I think I have my wife on board as well.
I saw someone mentioned a CAI and exhaust could net me almost the same power as the STi. On these cars, can an intake and exhaust realistically make up 40 ponies? |

Love these cars, great platform. Here is one we recently built, currently holds the record for hp on the '11.

CAIs help, but they aren't all that, think about the resriction of the intercooler and what the air has to go through to get to the engine. Due to the air going through a turbo, that negates a lot of the "smooth flow of air to the engine" crap, they just don't help all that much. When you up the size of the turbo and intercooler, then you often need an intake that can flow enough air, but the stock subaru inlets get good clean air and you usually don't get any benefit going to a "CAI" until you're going mega HP with other mods. |
