Learned how to drive in a '77 Ford F250 XLT 4X4 with a huge Wagner Power Angle plow hanging off the front end. In the winter. Snow on the ground. Very small side streets with cars on both sides, ice rutted, at night. I guess dad wanted me to get to judge distance REAL QUICK. Scared the crap outta me but never hit anything. Took my test in a '75 Ford Ranchero GT. Needless to say, I got to plow snow for $$ that year! Pretty damn good at it for a kid. I wound up with that truck a my daily driver back then. I bought the Ranchero in '79, sold her in '81 when I moved to Cali.

First car I ever "drove":

Age: 5. Car was in the backyard, dad forgot to take out the keys. Somehow figured out how to start it, get it into first gear, disengage the parking brake, floor it, and drive it.... straight into the kitchen.

Age 17:

Dad promised I would get the car for my 18th birthday (min. legal driving age in Belgium). Someone crashed into him on my burthday. Car was pretty much undriveable, the front was bent terribly. I still drove it, scaring the crap out of my oldest sister's bf (wheel arches banging onto the wheels when I braked).

One year later I got into a Renault 11. Which kind of put me off French cars ever since (damn thing blew all hoses, had electrical failures, and best feature I discovered when dad drove it once: one wheel steering (the left one didn't steer at all due to broken axle)).

After that a few Opels (Omega, Vectra)
But my first real, 100% self bought car: 1999 Lotus Elise.

86 Z28 with the TPI 305. Bought it in 2001 for $3000 after working at Burger King for a year to save up for a car. My older sister was pissed. Dad gave us two options, One being he sinks money into his car and gets it in perfect reliable shape and gives it to us, or we find a car on our own and he pay's up to $1500. Oddly enough we had a 83 Olds 98 that my dad messed with a little that ran pretty damn quick for what it was. I wanted that thing bad but my older sister opted for that thing much to my dismay, and she turned 16 before me. I figured she would of wanted something "cuter". But I found the Camaro right after school ended my sophmore year and my dad paid for half, and my sister got pissed and said it wasn't fair. If her lazy ass would of gotten a job and saved money she could of gotten something she wanted. The thing was gorgeous though, blue with an immaculate cloth grey interior and T-tops that didn't leak, unlike my 2002 Z28... It surprised my friends brand new 2002 GT he got when he got his drivers license right before school started our junior year. Oh the shenanigans we got into in that Camaro... I am surprised I am alive.

A 1956 Volkswagon Beetle, 37 HP, would run 62 MPH down hill, back window shaped like a football and about the same size.
