The person quoted (you are correct in guessing "Caddyshack") was Chevy Chase (fitting in with your Billy Crystal quote from before).

He conquered Gaul in the first century BC, and he was murdered on the steps of the Roman Senate by Brutus, Cassius, et al in the year 49. Oh yeah, Marc Anthony (who also was the lover of the same Cleopatra after our subject's demise) orated at our guy's funeral.

Well okay then! Since ya gave such a small and subtle hint there (club to head), I'd have to say that ya must be refering to ole Jules again ... the man responsible for one of our salad dressings at Olive Garden.
