Mod Question

Just wanted to say hello to all. I am a new 2012 Inferno Orange SS owner and have a few questions to the old timers on the forum.

I have a few mods that I want to do and am looking for some wise advise. I am looking to go cheap but also good. I want to get some lowering springs, air intake system and exhaust system and have some questions.

1) Intake - what is recommended that will not break the bank? I saw a post where someone said that there was an blackwing intake at $100.00 or $150.00 for members?

2) Springs - Same here, I was looking at either Eibachs or Hotchkis 1" drop?

3) Exhaust - I was looking into the Doug Thorely cat-back system, only around $500.00 any thoughts?

4) cat-back or axle back? Is there much of a difference as far as horsepower or are they pretty much the same?

5) will the car need any type of tuning with these mods or will everything be OK? Don't want a check engine light coming on.

Thanks for the help.

Cold Air Inductions or Roto-Fab or ADM (pricier but worth it) Consider the ADM scoop too

If you're just looking for lowered stance this is fine, but if you want handling you'll need sways, bushings, trailing arms, etc

3) Exhaust - I was looking into the Doug Thorely cat-back system, only around $500.00 any thoughts?

Go by what you think sounds the best. You won't get much HP unless you add high-flow cats or LT headers.

4) cat-back or axle back? Is there much of a difference as far as horsepower or are they pretty much the same?

See above

5) will the car need any type of tuning with these mods or will everything be OK? Don't want a check engine light coming on.

Only with LT's and some high-flow cats (check by searching the forum)

Thanks for the help.

MileMAN hit it all. My mods are listed in my build thread. All the things you are looking for and were done on a tight budget. I'm happy with every one of them.

And welcome to C5! Feel free to ask myself or anyone if you have more questions. Everyone is very helpful and friendly here!

there is some generic CAI systems on ebay for around $150 but I dont know anyone around here that has bought one. The best cheapest brand name intake is BBK or K&N and can be bought for around $275. they only go up from there. most CAI systems are around $400. for a good bang for your buck exhaust go for Pypes Bomb axle back. $300 with 4 1/2 inch tips! they look and sound awesome!!

clark, CONGRATS on the new ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Thanks for answering the questions. What websites do you guys usually use to purchase your performance parts? I've already seen a few but wanted to ask who you would think has the best prices.

Depends on what you're buying. I have had very good dealings and prices with JDP Motorsports and Apex.

Clarkshome – Welcome to the forum! If you’re looking for great performance and lowering your car, you’re on the right track with some Hotchkis Sport Springs. They are progressive springs, which allows for a good performance feel during regular operation without being too harsh. When you’re driving more aggressively, the spring rate increases as the springs are compressed more…so you’ll get more performance when you need it.

What's a good lowering number for these cars? I see 1" and 1.4" drops. I had my 350Z before this SS and had the hotchkis with a .8" drop and the ride was great.

Anyone out there with a 1.4 drop and an opinion on how the ride is? Pics would be nice.

I am also deciding between the Vararam, Roto-Fab or CAI any info from anyone that has them would be appreciated.

One more question on the lowering springs, if I do the 1" drop will I need to purchase anything additional to bring it to specs or will a simple allignment do the trick?

Thanks.
