I've seen people throw on 335's without rubbing anything pretty safely. I think any wider and you will need spacers, but then it will just look bad depending on the size of the spacer.

I believe it when they say they can. They gave it the IRS and bigger tires. That should help out quite a bit. Obviously traction will be an issue when a car has that much power, but don't forget...580 horsepower is a lot of power too and is not that easy to hook up.
I say we just wait till they both come out and let the cars do the talking for themselves. |

So what if they can't put that power to the ground from the factory? At least they gave you the power all you need is some suspension mods and wider tires. Problem solved
No need for IRS or magnetic or sophisticated technology blah blah

Has anyone noticed how the headlights on the GT500 make it look like its cross eyed lol. And then it has the weird goofy smile to the grill just a weird face more weird than agressive looking.

Here's the reason why SVT stuck with 285 rears. Sure I wish it came with 305's stock but after watching this video I could always buy a set of 305/35/20 MT's to try out when the stockers wear out and run 10's with on the stock 20" rims.
More vids with SVT Chief Engineer Jamal Hameedi talking about the new 2013 for those interested SVTPerformance.com : Details of the 2013 GT500 Engine SVTPerformance.com : 2013 Shelby GT500 Details from SVT Last edited by BigDan; 12-04-2011 at 04:21 AM. |

This is the only Mustang I have ever owned back in '89 and it was an awesome car in it's time. I am not a fan of today's Mustang or any Mustang that came out after 1993. The 1994-1998 models were the most hideous looking and then went with 4.6L motors.

He says take a look at tires sizes of other performance cars, so I did. First he mentions the Ford GT,and he makes the effort to compare the GT500 to the Ford GT. Yet the Ford GT had 235 front tires, and 315 rear tires. Perhaps because the Ford GT was mid-engined? If so, then... The front-engined Base Corvette has 245 front tires, and 285 rear tires and almost 200 ft-lbs less. Certainly a base corvette is significantly lighter than a new GT500, but not enough lighter to really offset all that torque. Now corvettes aren't always complimented on their steering, but Porsches typically are given lots of compliments on steering and so are BMWs. So... BMW M6, front tires 255 rear tires 285. Again, the M6 has over 200 ft-lbs less torque than a GT500, is heavier, yet has the same rear tire size as a GT500. The 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo has 235 fronts and 305 rears, but Porsche is also rear-engined and has historically had lift-throttle oversteer problems that made wide rear tires necessary more than just straight-line traction. The front-engined, RWD, Ferrari 599 GTO has 285s in the front 315s in the back for another example. There seems to be no shortage of high performance cars with 300+ rear tires. Finally he mentions gear ratios. He said the GT500 will have a 2.66:1 1st gear ratio. That is what my Z06 has as a 1st gear ratio. Now my final drive is a bit lower at 3.42 vs 3.31 in the 2013 GT500, and the rear tire diameters are about the same, but my stock Z06 tires are 275 front and 325 back. Those would be the examples I would ask him about if I had the chance to discuss the issue with him if I had the chance. Anyway I look forward to the results, and some test figures.
