Volt owners get an offer from GM!

With the recent outcry by the NHSTA complaining about the Chevrolet Volts battery catching fire now GM is loaning out either a Camaro or Corvette for Volt owners to drive if they become too scared to drive the Volt.

The car won't catch on fire unless you wreck it and you're too stupid to not disconnect the power supply and then let the car sit for a few weeks.

I don't get it. So, the NHTSA screws up its scientific method and GM/Chevrolet gets blamed?

That seems to be the case. There have been no reports of flaming Volts (except for two garage fires, in both cases the Volts were found to not be at fault) in the real world.

Wouldn't that be grounds for GM/Chevrolet to sue the NHTSA for negligence or slander?

That could be fun...

I don't think so, NHTSA hasn't come out and accused GM of building bad batteries, they're just investigating the batteries.

Essentially GM is very very annoyed about it but NHTSA hasn't done anything to warrant a lawsuit. Stupidity isn't illegal, unfortunately.

If stupidity were illegal there would have to be a jail on every street corner.

Well, stupidity might not be illegal, but reporting that there is a fault when there isn't one is, right?

They didn't report that there WAS a fault. They reported that their MAY BE a fault. . A fine line for sure

Not just Camaros or Corvettes, but just about any car in their lineup, according to that article. But thus far, hadly anyone has taken up the offer:

Probably because the Volt owners are the most satisfied buyers in the business right now:
