Pulled Over Today

I was driving through a school zone this morning and noticed an officer in the median. As I passed, he u-turned and pulled in behind me and followed me for about 1/2 mile. I was in traffic and not speeding. I was not texting or using my phone, so the only thing I could think was the fact I don't have a front plate.

I pull off the road and he comes up and asks me why I was not wearing my seat belt properly. I assured him I was wearing it and it was on the right way. He reached in and moved the shoulder strap under my arm pit and he told me I was wearing it that way. He wanted to know how I adjusted it right while he was following me. I explained that he must have not seen it correctly. Black belt on dark blue shirt through window tint might have been deceiving.

He asked for my license and insurance. I gave them to him along with my concealed handgun license. He then said "You must be an upstanding citizen to have one of these. Thanks for helping us keep everyone safe. I am not going to give you a ticket." By the way, no mention of the missing front plate.

All in all, I think it was a great encounter with the law. First time I have been pulled over in 12 years. All I can think is he was bored or wanted to use pulling over a Camaro as a warning to everyone else.

Thanks to all of you police officers for helping us stay safe!

I have never been pulled over. But I been outside gas stations and have cops pull in and talk about the car. That only happened one time. But I really think they like to pull over nice cars to get a close look at them. And when they follow you they are running your plate. They like to pick out cars like that to follow in case there *hot*

This is not a gun thread, but I will answer your question.

First, I have been the victim of a robbery in the past and this gives me peace of mind. After you spend 6 months recovering and in a wheel chair, you take a completely different view of self protection.

Second, I have three main hobbies. Cars, Golf and Shooting IDPA. The CHL allows me to carry easily to and from the range.

Third, I AM A TEXAN. It is bread into us.

Owning a gun is a personal decision. I don't ask you what you have ....

One more thing. Obtaining a CHL is not for the faint of heart. You have to take classes, go through a very rigorous background check that includes all 50 states. If you even have a class B misdemeanor you can be disqualified. I am then also held to a much higher standard in how I conduct myself, which includes drinking. The Blood Alcohol limit for a person with a gun is ZERO.

Those who go about this in my book are to be respected. They prove that they are law abiding citizens and are taught when to and not to use a gun.

Gun no gun, plate no plate... sorry that was a stop. I have nothing against LEOs doing their job BUT I hate abuse of power. He stopped you because it was a nice car with tinted windows and he was stereotyping you... it happens no big deal but he doesn't deserve thanks for it. Your last line sums it up... bored and setting an example... total And before this turns into a cop bash... that's not what I'm saying. Don't go there.

LEOs are human and capable of making a mistake. The important thing is that the LEO did not push the issue.

I was once pulled over while on my motorcycle going home from the gym because my "registration sticker was out of date". This was shortly after the state had changed the way the registration stickers looked. On closer inspection the officer realized he was wrong and apologized for the inconvenience. I had no issue with the stop as it seemed to be an honest mistake. That being said, it did annoy me that he wrote me a warning ticket. When I asked him why I was getting a written warning when I had not done anything wrong, he said that the department was required to write a warning, at the very least, for everyone they pull over. He said it was the department's way of tracking statistics to insure the officers are not profiling citizens.

And by the way, I had my gun on me at the time. I was pleasantly surprised that he did not freak out about that because I was off the bike and had easy access to the gun during the entire stop. He asked and knew it was in a IWB holster. And yes...I have my CHL... for many years now.

I'm just saying he didn't deserve a thanks. Thanks for what? Making a mistake and wasting my time? I'd be rather annoyed by the whole thing but I don't really like being pulled over.

Yeah I'd be annoyed, it seems like a BS stop to me.

As for the gun-- I carry a Ruger .380. Just sold my 9.
