The idea is you train people on the basics and gradually push them further and further out there comfort zone. Its hard to get the results you want if you can't break your bad habits nutritionally and take it easy while training.

Its not necessarily about hurting yourself. The soreness you feel from lifting or running is just latic acid buildup. Its just your muscles breaking down and getting stronger, its not a bad thing. Over time the soreness gets less and less. The idea is not to rip apart joints and tear muscles, its breaking them down quickly, resting and recovering.
