I talked to a friend of mine that is the computer GURU and he set me up with this software call Malwarebytes. The best $25,00 I have ever spent. This guy is an IT guy and they use this in conjuction with other software to fight this crap offat his work. Rated very high on CNet.com

But malwarebytes is free...he may have gotten the ultra-protection version. As far as the original virus question, that darn google-redirect virus stems from the Alureon virus. The first time I encountered this was on a work computer that we had to end up reformatting. Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, HitmanPro wouldn't even touch it. Even Kaspersky's TDSSKiller wouldn't get rid of it. The next work computer that got this I had another chance to mess around with it. Somehow, I ended up using NPE on it and no more google redirect!

when I first signed up here, I encountered several ADM build threads...
My PC was then stricken with the "i need more power" virus...

Moms laptop is buggy, spent nearly an hr waiting for the cnet site download to start [malewarebytes send you to them to download it]

waited and waited and all it did was go from page to page full of crap add for other software and no download ever started, tried 3 times.

Hey thanks guy, I sent a email to them about it and now when you click download it goes to a different site for download. Some file tag or something that actualy works.

Though sad part is malwarebytes didn't find or fix a thing.
All it did was turn back on the windows firewall n anti virus stuff, which we don't use. Got better program for that.

Its a dell xp laptop, plenty of hd space but just is one slow turd.
click the start button and it might pop up in 30sec

Well it wasn't like that when it was new, even setting it up so im the only admin and she is a user, somehow its buggered.

As before with her old PC she would fall for every cute email thing sent around packed with viruses n malware. I thought this would last much longer.
But its buggered up good, though if you restart the OS a few times it works betterish but not great.

Let me reiterate. Get a Mac and forget 'bout viruses. Not only that, but Macs are soo easy to use; it's night an' day compared to the PC.

Went backwards and installed windows 2000 pro, running better then ever. Only need internet access / use for her and firefox still supports it so no place she cant go. Xp blows
