Soon to be New Camaro Owner!
Whats up guys New dude here!
Like the title states I will soon be purchasing a Camaro SS within the next few months. Im currently learning and gathering as much information on theese cars as possible. I want to make sure I purchase the right model with the right options.. Im focused on a charcoal grey color LS3 SS all black leather interior(don't know what model SS this is considered to be?). Still debating weather to go with a manual or Automatic Transmission, and still debating on a hard or rag top. Goals for the car: weekend cruiser, drag racing every once in a while at the local track. one last thing I have a 3 month old son that means the world to me. He will be around 5-6 months when I get the SS.. Is this car safe with children spcialy babies??.. He will rarely ride in the car with me since I own a Tahoe as a daily driver but just to be on the safe side. Awesome cars by the way Hope you guys can help.. Thanks

The model you are describing is a 2SS, however if you want the LS3 you will have to get manual transmission. The automatic is the L99, little less HP, but not too much. My hubby has the LS3 and I have the L99, both are a lot of fun (the L99 has paddle shift).

I would recommend for your situation going with an L99 automatic. You'll more than likely get better MPG and I'd imagine if you have a child in the back seat you don't want to be too distracted with shifting. Also depends on your environment. I drive an LS3 with the manual and love it, but if I lived in a big city with lots of traffic I might go crazy!

slicksdude, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.
![]() oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!!

Thank you all for the warm welcoming and great info!
I was heading towards the AUTO side due to the stop and goes in the city drive. But that LS3 is itching to have.. Are parts interchangeable within the L99 and LS3. For example if I bought an after market part for the LS3 will it fit the L99? |

The Camaro is one of the safest cars out there, just aced all of the crash tests. It should be a good choice and you can feel comfortable about bringing your son along. Good luck!
