it also murders your joints over the years..... my grandpa's 92 and walks/bikes an hour daily...... no problems

or you can be me.. run, and create a deficit. Then lose weight.

15 years, no joint problems. Build up the muscle mass to support the high impact running. Most runners are skinny as a rail and thus get injured easily.

Yes for now. But when you get to where you want, why stop running when you can have break even calorie intake of 2,500-3,000 instead of 1,800-2,000?
