Fair enough, I suppose. But you're talking about $$$, and I'm talking in terms of market penetration. There are many metrics of success or failure. One of the more interesting parts of this industry that allows so many people to be "right" even when disagreeing with each other.

Even only considering sales figures, the genesis is still doing well compared to the competition. Outselling the lexus IS, audi a4, and acura tl. . .

I see your point that they may not be filling the streets with Gensis', but the car is actually doing quite well as far as I can tell.

No red blooded American Muscle car driver would buy a Hyundai as their Muscle car. I'm sure you can add the Canadians to that as well.

What's funny is that American automakers also "have improved very very much in the last few years," yet Americans still judge them by how they were in the 80s.

Why the double standard? Who knows.

Heres an idea on who knows..............I'm not sure that anyone is still judging the way they ( American built cars) were in the 80's per say, so the double standard angle isn't uniquely valid............... Its that the standards of American built cars dictated the over all build quality necessary for the competition to survive in the market place for decades. Then came along the failed history of the 80's and 90's. The quality of Amercian automobiles began tumbling down hill like a roller coaster headed towards hell and though they have made some improvements, theres still lots more image work to do.

Its a matter of expectations and many buyers have never forgotten the ilks of the big three, they trusted them blindly and wholeheartedly, Detroit failed them. In jest the big three may be back on the right track to re-establishing a loyal and trusting consumer base, but its a entirely new base, abet a smaller one. Many members of the old camp have permanently moved on, never to return. The over all quality of the likes of many of the imports brands have continued to rise steadily upwards on the sales graph. They now have their own brand loyal, trusting and confident followers, many American buyers are among them. At minimum more choices exist, including the up and coming high performance players............

There seems to be a misconception of the definition of has been or be. The foregin makers are not actually re-creating themselves as Detroit is as quality and performance manufactors, they are though creating themselves anew by expanding their product lines across all price points. They have the audiences attention and the reality is, it is of no fault of theirs. The big three dropped the ball and created a opening their willingly attempting to fill..............Wanting buyers are willing to consider them and so every car they sell is a thorne in the big threes recovery efforts. No one is being fooled..........

I don't think the Genesis coupe's target market is the luxury/midsize segment.
