You may not like them, but they aren't trendy. LEDs are generally considered superior lighting technology. They use less energy which makes them ideal for hybrids and EVs. They are expensive and that's why they aren't wide spread yet.

Based on the over the top aftermarket installations I can see your point.

Agreed. Makes alignment of the decklid absolutely critical. All the ones I've seen look quite good.

High wattage LEDs do get hot.

LEDs will be the lighting in all cars of the future.
However just like the Halos in the Camaro they can be tastefully done.
The problem is getting them bright enough, keeping them cool enough and being able to better control where the light goes.......to name a few

P.S. I live LED lighting

Yep, I know they are considered superior lighting to halogen bulbs. However, the LED strips that I see on Audi's, Mercedes, and Porsches, serve absolutely no purpose. They are a marketing tool that the respective car manufacturers use to make their customers feel special and elite because they are buying an Audi, Mercedes, or a Porsche. It's exactly the same as when BMW started putting halo lighting on their cars.

I for one am glad that Chevrolet hasn't jumped on the LED lighting strip band wagon. They already jumped on the halo lighting bandwagon (which looks badass on my Camaro btw)

I don't know if the OP was asking why the Camaro doesn't use LEDs more or why Chevy in general doesn't use LED's more.

It has been announced that the new Chevy Colorado is going to switch to an entirely LED brake light system (but, the reverse light will still be halogen). I would assume that this will hold true for the new Trailblazer as well since it's just an SUV version of the Colorado...

And Fen posted an excellent ass-end shot of the new Malibu...

What about those retarded, annoying laser looking led side markers some people put on their camaros? The look so dumb because they are four times brighter than they should be

The LEDs he described ARE "trendy" (and ugly too). The common thread in the design is the way they go out of their way to exploit the small concentrated light output from individual LEDs to make a styling statement that says "LOOK AT ME I HAVE LEDS AND YOU DON'T!!!"

There's absolutely no reason that LEDs cannot be used with a tasteful lens or light pipe to provide a nice even light source without the "dots" look everyone is sporting.

Now that Hyundai and Kias are showing off their dotty lights you will see them abandoned as the ugly trend that they are. (This will be right about the time that GM decides to put them on the Camaro)

This brings up a question that has always annoyed me...

We all know LEDs are better and more reliable and have a lot of advantages, so why is it that so many cars with LED tail lights have a regular incandescent bulb in the turn signal?

When you say it like that you sound like, you are upset because "I have LEDs and you don't". And when they are simply diodes and the advantage is small size, low energy consumption why would you want to make them look like regular lamps? It's simply what they are.

Not arguing, but unless there is a new/better solution, energy consumption is critical for hybrids and EVs and you'll likely see more until that better solution presents itself.

I believe it is because your backup lamp must actually project light similar to a headlamp where as the brake lights only have to light up.

As you've noticed, very few cars use LED headlamps, most are simply running lamps or worse, from this thread, simply decorative. I think the Escalade has LED headlamps and they are pretty nice, but they cost more money to actually project a beam vs. just lighting up.
