I'm wondering if it has something to do with FWD versions vs RWD versions with the exhaust routing on the FWD allowing oil to drip on the exhaust

Exactly.. It is not a recall on the engine, it is where the exhaust is located and that is the potential fire hazard on those FWD 3.8 V6 cars. The RWD 3.8 cars should not be affected by this being the engine is turned 180* and does not have the same design/layout as all of the cars affected.

My 96 is about as dead as..dead can get. It's on constant life-support while I wait to work up the funds to pick up a Camaro and sell my truck to my brother who currently drives the 96. It's bad.. Oh, and it only as 103,500 on the odometer. I'm almost hoping that the car erupts in flames from a freak extension of the recall and that he can take the truck. Then what insurance money comes from that and the truck 'sale' can go toward a camaro. |

News media likes making something out of NOTHING....Here's what they DIDN'T tell you.....
This recall is several years OLD! Most of these cars are off the road. This is NOTHING NEW - but hey, Toyota prolly likes that someone dug up and old recall to give GM a little MUD right now.

Yea this is ridiculous. The 3.8L V6 is one of the best engines GM has ever built. There is no way they are just now catching this problem. Oh, and why does it say

The recall is only the installation of a clip that will hold 2 of the front plug wires away from the valve cover.
