I do not trust smileys behind bold statements, but it is all good......Back to the thread.
My Boss has the 500GT in Red. It is pretty cool and sounds great. I will let you know how we do or you can come down and watch, I am supposed to take him on at Englishtown one day. SS vs. the 500GT....we shall see. I have a much bigger set of cahonaise that might help!

46000 + delivery (included in camaro price) + GG tax. You seem to ignore that when pricing a GT500. Include what is needed to make a fair comparison.
When I built a 2SS to 'load it up' as close as I can to a GT500, here's what I came up with: RS package IOM interior no auto (GT500 is manual only I think) GFX to make it look different from a lesser model ($2265) no sunroof (I don't believe the GT500 has one) engine cover ($285 don't know if the GT500 has something similar but I tossed it in anyway) No special wheels (none are performance wheels) Bonnet Stripes (extra $40 over Rally) Did not use a premium paint ($295) MSRP: $38 440 vs ~ $48 000 on the GT500 when you include the mandatory gas guzzler tax that the Camaro does not have and destination which Ford does not include in their pricing but Chevy does.

I can see where you get the 41k now.. but now I don't know why you say there is only a $5k difference in price, because it seems as if you didn't add those costs to the GT-500. Not tryin to argue or anything, and I am not trying to defend one car over the other, and yes both cars are amazing I will give credit where it is due, I am just trying to justify my point and understand yours

I'm still surprised at the buzz regarding the price difference. If performance numbers were closer I could understand, but performance isn't on par so I don't expect pricing to be either.
SS and GT500 are two different cars playing on two noticeably different levels. Both cars make an interesting argument in their own right as regards value for the dollar (example: one is the cheapest car on the market in the 400-500hp range while the other is the cheapest car producing more than 500hp) But, unless the GT500 is an utter handling let-down compared to the lesser GT model...which seems extraordinarily unlikely.....I don't see a close enough matchup in terms of performance to warrant a serious debate about the price difference between the two. There is no blurring of the lines here as we have seen with the SRT8 Challenger, these cars are truly on different performance planes. |
