Maybe... Just maybe the officer was going to write the person a ticket and then at the last possible moment, he decided to exercise discretion and let the person go...

Yes, the sarcasm should be dripping from this one...

I'm not 100 percent sure, but from the markings on the car... it looks like that is a NJ State Police cruiser. All of their interstates are very well marked for traffic to stay right except to pass so that driver is lucky he didn't get pulled over by that video it is a clear violation. They have started to put up signs on our major highways in DE as well. I am going to start enforcing this violation along with some of my shiftmates. There is nothing more frustrating then a slow driver "camped out" in the left lane.

Thats funny my mobile computer in my police car doesn't have any sound... so I didn't get to hear the person speaking....

I just drive thru NJ all the time to go back home to visit my parents in NY. So I've seen plenty of NJSP unfortunately got my first ticket from one of them back in the stone age. guess he had finally had enough of me following behind him in the left lane on I-80 for about 5 miles at 10-15 over the limit.... I kinda asked for that one.

What annoys me is when I'm pasing someone on the left lane and someone comes flying up on me and quickly swerves into another lane to go around me before I even get the chance to move over for them. That to me is more dangerous than the clueless ones on theleft lane.

It would seem that 29 of the 50 states have very clear 'must be passing' laws...and other others adhere to a "normal speed of traffic" law forcing slower-than-everyone-else cars to the right lane.

Like most things Jalopnik does, this too is not correct.

The word is actually "recht", but we get the point. American drivers are a whole lot better than most countries (I've driven in 37) but can't compare to the Germans. The German traffic law states that a driver will always assume you will obey the traffic law (whatever it may be). That means at 4 way stops you don't wave someone on even though you're next to cross the intersection and, if you get hit passing on the right, you're definitely at fault.

Anyway, I agree that slow drivers should stay to the right and that driver should have moved over. My problem is the abuse of authority in the video.
Abuse of authority?

Maybe that Civic should've quit abusing the passing lane.

Yeah cause ya know every time we put on our lights we have to pull you over and give you a ticket (sarcasm) sure looks like the Civic got the point...the officer got him to move where he should have been driving according to the laws of that State....he was warned..just not verbally.

The sad thing is the Civic driver probably had no clue why the cop did that.

Lmao, after watching it again, this time with sound, I can honestly say that I don't think that even the cokeheads filming it knew why the cop did that. So many retards in this world.....

Aside from the tailgating... pretty awesome! I wonder how things would have played out if that Civic driver "panicked" and hit the brakes and the officer slammed into his rear end. Not quite so funny then.

Still, kudos to the cop for getting that guy out of the way.

Since I've moved to a larger city I find my blood pressure going up every time I get behind the wheel. The worst here in Tampa, for me, is the whole "not signaling" thing. I can't think of the number of times I've had someone cut me off with no warning. And it can be especially dangerous on six-lanes.

Most drivers piss me off... they either tailgate, drive to slow, don't signal or can't decide their speed or what lane they're in.
