guess they put the accelerometer in the mirror. That's all you need to tell if you've been in a crash. If you accelerate or decelerate several times more rapidly than your car is capable, you can pretty much be sure you hit something or something hit you.

I'd be tempted to put it in my Jeep. The Verizon network it uses can make a call from seemingly anywhere, and it also doesn't stick out to thieves like a window-mount GPS does. That's important stuff for a soft-top jeep that's already been broken into in the month that we've had it...

They also use an antenna 3 times stronger than a cell phone, so you have a signal wherever you are. You have to figure that a car has more space for a powerful antenna than a phone would in your pocket.

I have heard about this from CES. From what i have heard Best Buy will be selling it and will be training/certifying their Mobile Installers to install the system. i think it is a fairly complex install... as the system still monitors crash response, air bag deployment, stolen vehicle tracking, remote unlock, etc, etc

never dealing with Offstar again. they totally suck for consumer satisfaction.

My wife has had her Cruze two whole days and this morning, she locked her keys in the car in a town over 60 miles away. OnStar to the rescue. It worked like a charm and made a believer out of me...saved me a 120 mile round trip to get the spare key to her.
