My 05 Jetta TDI has 160,000 and still runs strong. They last forever if you maintain them.

On the exact same trip in our Camaro SS with 8 cylinders and over 400HP we got 26 mpg only 4 mpg less than the Cruze Eco.
Call the regional GM rep and explain the situation to them. There's obviously something wrong with the car.

eco is ONLY worth the addiitonal 1800 bucks if you go stick.

if you go auto, save the money, lose 1 more mpg and go LS instead.

Are you going by what the display is telling you? I manually checked our mpg and the read out is substantially higher and Inaccurate on our car.

Looked at the new Focus? Everything I read or hear says they're great as far as compacts go. I assume by already owning Golf that brand loyalty is no at issue here?

I have a 2011 Cruze 1.8 LS that I bought for my daughter for college transportation. It's a good looking car with some nice ammenities, but it cannot get out of it's own way. The lack of power scares the shit out of me and my wife. As far as MPG is concerned it's about average with the 4 bangers out there.

I will add this, I was just in California a few weeks ago and my wife and I rented a Nissan Altima 4 cyl. Very impressive acceleration and handling. I drove that thing for 4 days, and used very little gas....very little. I almost did not fill it for the rental return. We went all over Monterrey and Carmel, down past Big Sur, and even some out of the way stuff....I was expecting like a half a tank since I'm used to driving 4 bangers that have no balls. I must say, for the money I'd test drive that car for sure. As far as the ricer crap is concerned, it's a standard transportation car, not some winged out ground efx folgers muffler thing, just a standard transportation car. The one I just rented was an auto of course, off Hertz. This was my first drive in one and I was very impressed for a 4. The 50-ish more HP and torque made a big difference over the Cruze for sure.....

My wife just bought a 2012 Cruze Eco and she really likes it. She is still on the first tank of gas the the car still says it can go about 290 miles. This is all ciry driving and she has been driving it for the past 3 days.

With that purchase we are a straight Chevy family now!

Cruze is a great car. Ours is an LTZ RS and driving my "normal" speed on the highway results in 32 or so with the EPA being 36. You have to really watch your speed and passing if you want to hit 42 with an ECO. Similar to the Equinox 4 cylinder FWD. EPA is 32 which is impressive, but you really have to watch your speed to get close to that in the real world.

Also the 2012 got a new transmission which results in +2 mpg highway (38) and a big improvement in drivability.
