It's better to live without Camaro that to die with it (or at least for a car manufacturer ). If times get better and GM becomes profitable again, they can spend their profit on whatever they want. After they become profitable.

If the banks aren't so f'd up right now, they wouldn't have gone to the gov't....but then if the banks weren't f'd up, they wouldn't be in this position, anyways............

I hope you don't seriously believe that...... if it were not for SUVs, GM would have lost money even during the booming 90's. And they started a 7 year in a row slide in 2002. Long before banks were f'd up.

The comment about about people making 12-14 dollar an hour making your car. I guess you are ok with companies like walmart buying products from countries that children make the product....Ohh yeah GM doesnt do that right pop the hood on your car and see where the wiring harness comes from, oh yeah GM can be trusted to do the right thing. Thats why they needed the "BAIL OUT" money like the rest of the thieves that walk among us.....Oh Yeah I forgot, its all the banks that caused this...LOL wake up

Yeah I also think it should just be Chevy and Caddy for a while, then when the rest start picking up steam in 5-10 years merge back.

Yeah...but they made money off those SUVs. So what's your point?
I'm not saying they were the perfect model...but they were on the road to profitability in '08....had the proverbial sh!t not hit the fan....so yeah -- I do seriously believe that.

The economic downturn accelerated an otherwise controllable slide for GM, Ford, and Chrysler. While they may not have ever been the best-run companies in the world, they were extremely successful for their sizes. Recent causes for their downturn, besides the market collapse, include previous administration tendencies to change policy in the automotive industry with almost no input from the automakers. This has led to rising EPA standards, lower investment from US government sources despite overseas investments in imports, and increased support for import companies in Republican states with factories in the Bible Belt that is polarized from Democratic support for domestic factories in northern states.

In other words, all 3 companies had already renegotiated contracts with the UAW that would allow further profitability this year that would have otherwise been available. The US government, despite a history of dependence on the automakers for fleet products and war support, has essentially stabbed its companies in the backs. Call your elected officials and demand their support for their most important infrastructure companies.

I think they should of been let to fall, and have a investment company come along and buy it for pennies on the dollar and get the place going in the right direction. Top Gm officials making $150million + stock options and gods knows whatelse. Sorry they git what the deserve.

A GM without a Pontiac is a mistake, a GM with out BPG is a mistake. Mark my words, we should be getting a Firebird/Trans Am with the new Camaro, to spread the costs of the new Camaro over more cars. A Buick/GMC couldn't work without Pontiac and Pontiac couldn't work without Buick or GMC. They all stick together or they die, trust me.

gm4life05sle seriously??? That kind of thinking is what sunk GM Badge engineering of the worst kind it just dilutes models of cars and that spreading of the cost is what ends up cheapening the models. DEF FAIL!! That thinking is what got them here...NO WAY can they go that route again, they have to many brands , to many models to many of everything!! The car companies that run the best have 2 maybe 3 divisions! Honda/ Acura, BMW/MINI etc etc

Scotty, you forgot to mention that the Chevy Traverse outsold the Toyota Highlander by 100 units in March and was 2nd in the crossover segment only to the Honda Pilot, Chevy sales were up by 25% in March over Feb., and the new Equinox SUV coming out (June) is going to blow the CRV and Rav4 away with 30MPG EPA highway fuel mileage!! Like Ed Peper said, "We are Rockin!!"
