There is nothing reliable about consumer reports. They rarely support American products.

I've got an admitted soft spot for the Blue Oval, and even I am amazed every time I see another die hard SN95 enthusiast. In all sincerity, era considered, the SN95 is easily one of the worst two Mustang platforms ever devised, and the New Edge is the worst of the two bodystyles produced on that platform. The performance bright spots in the histry of the SN95 are the R models, the 03-04 Cobra, and the Mach-1, and even in those you still had to live with literally God-awful ergonomics, a chassis that had arguably passed it's sell-by date before it even hit the lot, and styling that had managed to go from meh
(94-98) to train wreck (New Edge). The 94-98 models looked better than the follow on New Edge cars and the chassis didn't become woefully outmoded until the New Edge models rolled around, unfortunately the fastest of the 94-98 cars was underwhelming to be kind and by the time they fixed that the whole car needed a redux. Sometimes I find myself amazed that Mustang and Camaro survived the 1990's at all. As for CR, I think they just make this stuff up as they go along. |

First I watched the video:
"Consumer reports may test cars good, but their approach to reliability studies/polls suck ass" Then read the thread: "Consumer Reports is TP!" ..Please watch the video before commenting people. All it was, was some balking at Ford's profit stuff, Volkswagen's Darth Pieth, Jeep pwning reliability studies, and some guy named 2kris2kross thinking Nissan owns the letter Z. Oh, and a crappy Mustang photoshop. Good morning everyone! |

BTW the dirty little secret for CR is that to complete a reliablity survey on a car you do NOT need to own the car, only subscribe to the magazine.
Also, there are 3 elements to getting the CR Recommended Buy. 1 Reliability, determined from the survey, which as I mentioned does not require you to actually own the car 2 Performance, reviewed by David Champion and his crew. They have their own priorities and those don't generally line up with what we might find important. 3 Safety, the car has to have certain safety content and features and meet minimum performance requirements. It's not perfect by any means, but those that look at a car as an appliance and need someone to tell them what is "ok to buy" rely heavily on CR.
