Good job !! Getiing your own ball and having it drilled to fit you puts you on the right track . Now just get comfortable with it and the scores will come !

I have 17 300s, 13 800s (843 high), at least 21 tournament victories with another 9 seconds (including 2nd in WI Scratch All-events and a 2nd in Scratch Doubles).

I've been mostly throwing Storm lately. I drilled up a Victory Road for Nationals last year and it helped us finish 19th in team. The Anarchy and Virtual Energy are up there on my list, as well as my Brunswick Fury. I love throwing the my old equipment in league for fun...threw my 1999 Nail tonight.

A couple of comments on the handicap systems...100% of 200 is an extremely big advantage for bowlers with high averages. The higher the handicap limit, the less of an advantage for higher average bowlers. The thing that shouldn't happen is a bowler throwing a 300 and getting beat with handicap. I've had it happen to me, its not right. The max game you should ever get is a 300, including handicap.
Very nice. You're top dog in the thread now. lol

I havent' had it happen to me but I"ve seen a guy shoot 300 and lose. I agree it shouldn't happen. If I ran a tourney I'd at least make that one scoring plateau.

I always participate in the no tap night at the end every year. Scratch bowlers are screwed to try and win those. Jason, on our team, shot 878 one night and lost to a 902.

Jason had no handicap and the other guy was getting around 33 or so. I remember it was funny when Jason left 8 in the third game he was pissed because he kept saying that he would have to shoot perfect 900 to win. It was funny when the other guy was done it woudnt' have mattered anyway.

Nice. You're gonna have bad nights. But you'll have good ones too. More bad early on with new equipment and a new approach. Stick with it and you'll be glad you did.

Congrats on the 409

Fantastic. Only one place to go and that is up. As PQ mentioned. You will have bad nights don't let those get to you. Concentrate on throwing good shots and good things will begin to happen for you.

Might as well put it in the oven why your at it to dry it too........

JUST KIDDING.

I did build a cooking box to heat the new balls up and bake the oil out of them. I only do it once a year, and boy do the newer balls ever soak up the oil too.

When we came back to bowling after 9 years I still had the old Teal Rhino Pro and it had been used for a year or two of 3 nights a week before we quit. So I was 'That Guy' to the guys in the back.

I remember we HATED that guy. The guy who used an ancient ball that was soo oil soaked that the machines wouldnt' grab it to return it. After about 3 weeks of constant ball return calls, I got a new one.

I've opened equipment to bowl that had been sitting in the hot car all day and the oil was thick on the ball.

I know that ball........ I still have mine. It has been refinished a few times to where it is just about under size now. I don't throw it anymore.

It use to leave to many ten pins too. Stopped throwing it. My plan now is to cut it in half and make book ends out of it.

Haha! Don't give up on the old stuff. I was bowling a tournament last year in a dungeon of a center and made it to the championship match. The lanes were way burned out and all my newer stuff was pretty much unusable (especially with the over the top ball returns). I sent my wife home to the basement to grab my old Cobalt Rhino (yes-shiny, oil-soaked urethane). The thing didn't wrinkle...was it a good choice? Let's just say I chalked up a 2nd place finish. lol

I use a storm natural for my spare/burnt up ball. Love that thing.

Bowling can be such a humbling experience.

Yesterday my son was able to beat me in the first game 171 to 127. That is my worst score in a LOOOOOONNNNGGGG time. The ball was just jumping at the back end. I knew I was going tough when I left a couple 4 9 splits. Even my son left a couple of those splits and a couple 9 pin leaves for both of us. I even missed a few easy spares.

I made many moves try to get the ball down lane further but nothing seemed to work.

Finally by the 4th game of the day (we only bowl 2 games a week and we were making up for last week). I was throwing about as fast as I like to in order to get the ball down there and still carry. Shot a 234 game. I was explaining to my son this is the only time I tell myself to throw faster, otherwise it is usually slow down.

Yeah, I naturally throw the ball hard and I get myself in trouble when I'm throwing hard AND my feet get fast.

I have gotten a good bit slower from what I use to throw.. I'm in the 17-18 mph zone now..i use to chuck it 20+ somehow.

I don't use spare balls. Then again, it helps when you can throw 25mph at a 10 pin. lol
