Very true! Already was 80 MPH on I-10 from Van Horn - Kerrville!! DPS would let you go 85 before the law change!

I hope the entire I-10 stretch between El Paso and San Antonio gets the 85 MPH speed limit. There is absolutely nothing in this area.

What about Willcox and Las Cruces? Albeit it isn't Texas, I remember a lot of these stretches were unrestricted.

Does not really help when MOST of texans drive obliviously. (Notice i say most and not all, so don't gripe at me.)

Reminds me of the book Fahrenheit 451. The book mentions speed and bilboards becoming longer because of increased speed limits and such. It's a good book and this seems freaky.

The only thing I would say as a negative would be reduced fuel economy. 85 MPH would be well over 2,000 RPM in my Camaro and would run about 3,300 in the Daily Driver.

Very true. The optimal speed for best fuel economy on most cars seems to be 60-65 MPH. Most people don't care about this though. They just want to get from point A to point B in the least amount of time as possible.
I'm willing to bet there will be more broken down cars on the side of the road in 85 MPH speed limit areas.

When I was down in Zapata TX I was impressed with the Texan drivers as anyone coming up faster then them, then just merged into the break down lane to let you pass so you didn't have to cross the center line.
[note break down lane is as wide and nice as the reg road.]

Before you even got close, trucks and everyone would just slide over.

It was very civil.

Not like here where we got all these idiot Michigan drivers coming through all the time, since they have no fault car insurance, no one bothers to learn right
