Funny thing is I never considered a BMW or VW to be rice.
![]() It just kinda always made sense that Toyota, Nissan and Honda was. STOCK anyway. Then I'd see the cosmetic stuff on other cars and just consider it rice as well. Oh, and does this car have a freaking rear spoiler glued to his hood? LMGWTFBBQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()

"Just so you all know, I have friends that are "tuners" the nicer term and we go on drives together.. All of them and myself included appreaciate power and respect each others tastes... Kind of funny when you see a Camaro and Evo and SRT4 club going to the beach for an icecream but its who we are.. I respect their cars even though I would not be caught dead in one and they all love the Camaro.. ricers and domestics can get along, its individual respect thats all." When did they start building those in Japan? So what if GM is the largest holder in a company that builds cars elsewhere? |

This sounds like one of those debates of the Camaro being a muscle car or not.
You can't say that CC_Perfomance is wrong. He was there at the time. Apperently the term has been around a lot longer than I thought and has morphed into something different. If it was a term once used for all Japan made cars then you can't argue that it wasn't. Only that the definition has changed over time. Which I'm guessing is the case. And with no official definition you have to allow that it can be accepted for the guys who remember the original meaning to keep it as such. |

Do you even know what Pearl Harbor is and the significance of it?? if you did you would undertand the term rice and its origins... The fast car remark was in response to someones saying something about 14 second car owners not knowing .. and nort being one fo them I had to point that out |

So what I can gather from your posts is that, "rice" is a racist term referring to Japanese cars, developed because of the country's actions in WWII. You insist this is the case, yet you continue to use the word? Interesting. Last edited by 8cd03gro; 10-06-2011 at 02:59 AM. |

Who died and made you merriam-webster. To me Rice has morphed to become anything that has more than 3 colors on it, partial body kits, a large annoying muffler, and very useless, cheap, stupid mods such as Cut springs, massive wings, cheap E-bay intakes/parts, and stupid HIDs in non projector headlights that just blind everybody. Even a hideous looking body kit isn't really rice as long as it was painted and installed properly and doesn't have any gaps. Then it just becomes Fugly. Any type of car can be rice, it's not just imports.

But, what was the purpose of this thread? to discuss how the word originated or what it means TODAY? Maybe we can have 2 definitions, one for back in the 70's and another for today. In 1970 "CC Performance" is probably right Today i dont think so. But one thing we can all agree is that the term has evolved and it doesn't mean the same as it did back in 1970.

![]() close, really really close, but bigot or bigoted comes to mind as more appropriate... along the lines of rice or riced... before anyone gets their panties in a wad, please look up the definition... Tuner is usually considered the more complimentary term... Any car can be "riced," in the derogatory form of expression... and there are cars built in Japan that are not "riced" vehicles... I guess if a car built/operated by rice eating cultures are ricers, then most any vehicle in Louisiana could be considered "rice", as rice is served in or with just about every meal... and this is about as mom, apple pie and Chevrolet an area as there is...
