I am not much of a gun person, but my friend runs a gun and pawn shop. I hang out there on the weekends sometimes. I have seen a lot of handguns and guns in general. I have come to like the FNP. They have a 9, a 45, a 40 and a 357 I believe. FNP is definitely worth checking out.

I'm right handed but I shoot with my left
![]() Ruger P89 They don't make this one anymore so the Glock would be my next choice.

Where I work, they dig a hole in a 55 gallon barrel, first fill with gravel, then they put a H&K 40 and a Glock 17 and then fill with dirt. Our academy is in a very rainy, humid part of the US. After about 10 weeks or so, (somewhat middle of our basic academy) we bury them out, put in new ammo and they shoot perfectly. I put mine through dirt, wind, sometimes water, bashing against my car door, bouncing against cell doors(using the minimum force necessary to subdue the subject
), and I bashed it on the way out of a static repel off a chopper, just qualified expert last week. H&K 40. the way to go. I'd buy one, but you all (taxpayers) already did! Thanks!:flag2::flag2:

After 25 years of police work and a multitude of gun experience I can vouch for whatever model of a Glock .40 cal that you feel comfortable with shooting and holding. Point and shoot...no brainwork involved. And after seeing so much of the results first hand of what such a gun/round can to a person I can recommend it from that end too (with hollow points). We used black talon rounds...and they turn into a buzzsaw inside a victim. I've followed their path at the post mortem exams and was very impressed with the damage inflicted by flattening out and bouncing around through the organs instead of just passing through the body. As a department armor I can also vouch for the guns dependability and ease of maintenance. The only one I saw that was non functioning was after a severe plane crash. They're so easy to work on that even a cave man could do it!

Kinda partial to my old service pistol (baretta 9mm). I've never been a big fan of the Glock...the slide release is nearly impossible for me to use without skinning my thumb. Sig is always a top chioce...for me I love the HK USP .45

Beretta is a good service weapon. I guess we are in a world of lighter, less complicated weapons now. And for the black talons, those freaking things are scary on our side of the badge..

I have not yet gotten a chance to read the entire thread yet. However, there's a growing number of officers whom I work with that are carrying the Kahr arms pistols. I carry a PM4043 off duty. Yes, it has a 3" barrel. However, I have shot a perfect score with this pistol the past two years at my qualifications (I have to qualify with this gun to carry it off duty per my regs w/ the city). Even from 25 yards, the pistol is VERY accurate. One of the range instructors was surprised at the accuracy of such a small pistol.
Again, I HIGHLY recommend this gun. I carry the .40 caliber. GREAT GUN. http://www.kahr.com/PA-1_40sw_pm.html |
