And the article gets even more laughable by calling the F-series "industry leading." Maybe with the F-150, but the Silverado HD still leads the HD class in towing and payload, not to mention it has destroyed the Super Duty in almost every comparison test.

maybe I'm not remembering right, but isnt the current super duty diesel ahead in power and towing capability over the silverado?

Granted the silverado bests it in the real world

As far as I know, Silverado is ahead once again. GM updated it for the 2012 model year.

They "update" these diesel trucks so often now, it is hard to keep up with the specs. They all take turns just barely one-upping each other. Who is technically on top by a small margin changes every year.

I can still remember the new F-350 Super Duty in 1999 when they wowed the world with 10,000 lbs of towing capacity. I'm not sure exactly what they are up to now other than I know that the Big 3 have all more than doubled it.

9. Colorado: Indeed stale and declining in sales. Again, however, I must add that it was the 2nd best selling midsize pickup in America at launch.
8. Avalon: Never really sold at very high volumes, but Toyota doesn't expect it to.
7. Dakota: Irrelevant, dead.
6. Tahoe: Apparently the rank of "Best-selling SUV in America" means nothing.
5. Liberty: Might have a point there.
4. Silverado: 2nd best selling vehicle in America. GM sells more Silverados every month than Toyota sells Camrys. What this author is smoking, I do not know.
3. Mustang: Again, not supposed to sell at high volumes, although sales have indeed been dampened by Camaro.
2. Taurus: Of course it doesn't sell as well as it used to, it has a much higher ATP and for good reason.
1. 300: Can't argue there, although it still ranks 7th on the list of best selling full size cars in America.
I see these cars all over the place, every day.... love it when people THINK they know what they're talking about...

I was also surprised to see the Silverado on there. I mean seriously... but I suppose they were technically just talking about the HD version... but that could be based upon the fact that businesses are not buying them because there is less business than normal due to a recession. the HD version isn't really for your average joe truck lover.

But most of the list is due to stale designs... I can think of quite a few other stale designs that aren't selling well....

another thing to consider is that automotive reliability has grown over the years and with the economic downturn, more and more people are holding on to their older cars instead of buying new.

2012 Silverado 3500HD dually has:
  • Best-in-class 1-ton fifth-wheel towing capacity of 23,000 pounds (10,430 kg)
  • Best-in-class conventional towing capacity of 18,000 pounds (8,164 kg)
  • Best-in-class payload of 7,215 pounds (3,272 kg)

I could put my truck in the back of the truck and still have weight to spare. lmao

Here is how Silverado’s capabilities compare with the competition:

The Mustang didn't have any competition in segment for almost a decade, why is this a surprise? Few cars will sell like the Mustang used to back the 60s and 70s, so why is a big deal is beyond me.

as much i don't like the mustangs i wouldn't want them to go. muscle cars won't be the same with out the mustang. if i could i would own both of them but i just prefer the camaro hands down. anyway i hope it works out for ford i think if they would replace the rear end on that car sales would go up.
