Correct, the Zl1 will have the 6L90 with some upgraded bits. Most probably a billet intermediate shaft and better friction pads. I would assume that the TCM will also be tweaked.

To the OP, your buddy just had a bad transmission. I have the 6L80 and first time off the rack when I got the torque convertor installed it went to shit. It's still out in the shop. Learned my lesson, you gotta pay to play. Regardless whether he had it stock or modified, he was one of the unlucky ones that got a bad pick.

And hey.... it doesn't matter whether you win by an inch or a mile...winning is winning. LOL

The title of this thread is very misleading and should be changed. The CTS-v is one of the only GM cars that is build like their trucks. It's pretty much bullet proof. Now if you take one and abuse it by adding aftermarket parts and beating the crap out of it well then all bets are off.
