It is believable, which is scary.

I'm hoping that you guys are all contacting your elected officials, reminding them to repeal CAFE.

So this is "deemed unnecessary" from an Auto Taskforce that doesn't have a clue about building a car, reporting to a president..."the teleprompter in-chief" that doesn't have a clue about running anything much less a country.

Big mistake President Obama. Just like the space program who many say and have said we spend to much on don't have all the facts or see the larger picture. The benefits we all have received are astounding and show up my the hundreds for us all daily. Racing programs are no different and the fuel efficiency, longevity, durability, handling, tire improvements......and YES safety come directly from racing programs. It's not as simple as saying it's about "selling on Monday based on what won on Sunday". Nothing makes me more upset than the money, my taxes, being thrown at mortgage companies, financial instatutions and even the car companies. GM's in trouble because of getting themselves to the point where they spend more daily on things like benefits for their retired executives and workers than they do on actually making cars & trucks - not because they sponsor racing efforts. Businesses fail because of bad management from the top - period. We all need to be VERY careful with just how much power and control we want any President of ours to have. It's one thing for our President to want to help the economy and have control of where money is spent when it's our tax dollars on loan to them but be careful for what we ask for. We don't want our government controlling EVERY aspect of private businesses or we will be in a world of hurt compared to how things are now. To a great extent we need to let the good businesses that are well managed continue and prosper and let the poor managed businesses receive the reality of their poor efforts and fail. That's how America was built and is needs to remain that way.

On a seperate note, it would be nice to see our government come out with an announcement that tells all Americans that the government has found a way to SAVE money by cutting THEIR own expenses immediately or in 60 days like they want the car companies to do. Anyone hear about the voluntary pay cuts congress, the house etc are taking? Me either. How about what it costs for Obama to go on the Tonight Show? Do some research into the millions it costs for every trip a President takes - two Air Force One's flying, crews, special cars, food, staff, secrete service, security etc...... Time for our government to step up and lead by example.

Anybody who watches the news, knows this isn't impossible though...

As a NASCAR fan, I may be a little more gullible on this topic. Kiss my

April Fools Day joke or not, I can believe that the "messiah' would direct GM and Chrysler out of nascar...wouldn't freakin surprise me a bit. I hope he does...that will cost these jackasses some votes.
