What thing? You mean the minihandcuffs?

That does suck - when I had my camaro I got pulled over three times in the same night - for a headlight out!!! My headlight went out at work, I drove it home (about 20 minutes) and got pulled over 2 times for the headlight. Then later that night I went out again and got pulled over again - sorry, but some cops need to get a LIFE!

Funny thing - next day (b/c I ddin't want to get pulled over), I drove my mom's minivan - turns out there's one headlight and the only one tailightis working. No right blinker in the back. Passed two cops on the way home and didn't get pulled over.

Another story - my friend was driving a mustang - got pulled over by three cop cars. Why? Because one of his two license plate lights were out!

I know cops think mustang, camaro etc. = trouble, but get a life. Something about not profiling? Might have heard of it?

and for those cops who dont do this crap please dont be offended.

All cops do not suck. the situation sucked. Honestly i dont know what "tabs" are but I can guess they are somethign to put on your plate? if you had enough time to put them in the car then why not just put them on the car?

Tabs are a sticker that go on your license plate to show that your vehicle's registration is current. Here is WA we have month and year tabs, although when you renew your registration you normally only get a new year tab.
That explain it?

I try so hard to do everything I can to cooperate and make it easy for the cop. I admit my violation, don't claim ignorance, don't argue, smile, talk pleasantly, etc. I pull over quickly and in a safe spot, making sure to pull over far enough so the cop isn't standing in a travel lane but not so far that he thinks I'm trying to hide something on my passenger side. I put my keys on my dash and my hands visibly on the steering wheel, and don't root around in my pockets and glovebox for my license/registration/insurance until the cop is watching me intently, so that he doesn't think I'm trying to have a weapon ready when he walks up.

Do you know how much mercy I get? Zero. Every time, I get whacked with whatever the cop reasonably thinks he can give me. I must be ugly or something. Everybody I know always gets warnings or entirely let off, and I get all the tickets, even if I wasn't driving abnormally offensively.

People spend loads of time dangerously tailgating me wishing I'd go faster, because I usually try very hard to avoid a ticket, then on the rare occasion I drive more like others I get a ticket. I don't even have any modifications or damage that attracts attention to my cars! They are plain, no tint, all license plates present, etc.

I think it's not done on purpose; I think the cars that turn everyone else's heads also turn cops' heads. Then again, my efforts to drive unremarkable-looking vehicles don't seem to help me...

I don't have a problem with profiling. It makes perfect sense most of the time. Everything gets abused and so will profiling but to play the odds just makes sense. We are all more vulerable since profiling laws began.

Why is that a problem? What if you had a child at that school?

If you don't speed, forget to apply your tags on license plate, have limo tint, thump your music, do burnouts, cut people off...You will not have a problem with "cops" generally speaking. I can not attest to small penis prick "cops" who get off on authority.

The budget and coffers? Believe what you will. I work for Detroit PD and we DO NOT have quotas. Many suburbs have quotas and pay their officers OT to write say 8 tickets per 4 hour block of OT. With that, YES, there WILL BE STRICT enforcement in that city or town. Just how it is..plain and simple.

Point?

Obey the law and you will NOT be f&%*ed with...for the most part.

To address the initial issue...If you have dated proof that the tags were purchased, but not applied to the plate, 99% of the time you can have the fine dropped or severely reduced. In Michigan, this fine is waivable.

I will cite a driver for the above named offense, sure. But ONLY if you say had a moving violation and I wanted to be decent. I will not write the serious moving offense but you still get a fine or a reminder for the tags.

"Cops" are human too..

Look...

Lets look at the situation like this..

You have a group of 10 friends. Out of those 10, 3 are the responsible ones who look after the group. 3 are instigators, 2 are stupid asses when they drink and 1 is the idiot who pulls his penis out and pisses on the bar floor.

Cops are like this too..The one who complains about cops are probably the one who pissed on the bar floor and the cop who catches you probably pissed on the floor the night before and his conscience dictates that he punish you for his actions.

All kidding aside, if you get pulled over, DON'T be a smart ass. DON'T argue, DON'T make any sudden moves, DON'T make the "cop" follow behind you for a mile with his lights and sirens on, DON'T act like a FELON and place your hands on the headliner, throw the keys out of the window, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT admit to anything. If the officer asks "do you know why I pulled you over?". Be polite and say "No officer, I do not".

DO pull over reasonably fast, DO turn off your music, DO roll down BOTH windows, DO be polite even if you feel you are being screwed, DO accept your citation politely no matter how big a prick the officer was...read on.

If you feel like you were unjustly screwed, by being polite, you have better positioning in fighting the ticket. Let's say the officer was having a not so keen day and just plain old pissy. We do remember who we cite. I have occasionally "forgotten" tickets, even though I showed up for court. As well, if an officer gets a subpoena for you, he will retrieve his copy of the ticket with his "notes" as to what was said and your attitude and just not show up.

As well, magistrates and Judges remember officers who citizens complain against in court. If you have an officer who was pissy with you, tell the Judge or Magistrate how you were treated. More than likely, you will be seen favorably.

Last resort, maybe the first. If at any time you feel an officer was out of line, rude, a jackass, make a citizen complaint. You have that right. If you personally don't check public officials on their demeanor, don't bitch about it to your friends or in a forum.

I get complaints all the time..95% of them are from felons and very bad offenders. 5% for traffic issues because maybe I was being a dick. If your driving, vehicle papers and license is mucked up, I would rather give a tongue lashing and "rules of the road lesson" than a citation IF you understand why I stopped you and are polite. It is the 5% that I let go with a "driving lesson" that make a complaint. SOmetimes I can't win...
