I agree that the 69 was the best Chevy ever built. I had a 69 SS396.
![]() ![]() In 2005 I gave it to my son. In 2006 it made the cover of Camaro World magazine. On the way to Michigan. ![]()

The ONLY reason 69 is considered the best of all time is definitely NOT because of the way the car looks. Thats all opinions. In MY opinion, 67 SS/RS with the hideaway headlamps looked the best. The 69 looked like a bug eyed car with the way the headlights protruded from the grilll. Nasty looking in my opinion once again. The reason they crowned it KING, is because of the ZL-1. Thats it! It is considered the baddest of all muscle cars because of its sleeper, no fancy, look. Because it produced the highest amount of HP STOCK for those who could afford it buy, and there is only 2 in all ORIGINAL conition. No other car produced had more HP in the big 3 american companies back then. I'm not sure, but I'd be willing to bet it had influence on what yr to retro the camaro to, and thats why they went with 69. Either that or since Ford came out with retro mustangs which they used 69 as their yr, we followed? Not sure. But thats why 69 is on top. 69 ZL-1s can fetch from $600,000-$1,000,000 if bought these days.(matching #s all original) Why not make it the premier car for chevy?

If I had the money, time, and experience I would have bought a 69 Camaro instead of a 5th gen. I LOVE that car and is by far my favourite classic. As an alternative, the 5th gen was an easy choice.

I think they got it right... I also think that the 5th gen is too new to be considered. Give it long enough for nostalgia to set in and the 5th gen will be among the top contenders.

The finalists were the 69 Camaro and the 70 Chevelle. The Chevelle shoulda won, IMO
