Who would be the GM Carroll Shelby equivalent?

OK, I apologize up front if I should know this. I did a search for all threads with Shelby and didn't see anything relative to this topic.

I know that there were Yenko's and COPO cars but did GM ever have anyone that is or was like Mr. Shelby?

Possibilites....

You mention Yenko, but what about Motion (Baldwin Motion)?

More recent ones....
Callaway...tuned Corvettes and Camaros
Lingenfelter....tuned Corvettes and Firebirds(?)
Gulstrand....tuned Corvettes
SLP...upgraded the Camaros and Firebirds...not one guy like Carroll, but....

Is that what you were thinking of?

I'm definitely interested in who may produce performance packages for our Camaro5

I'm also wondering who was the driving force behind GM performance/racing over the years.

If you mean someone outside of GM hired to do special performance editions? How about Callaway, they have done many Corvettes and Camaros over the years. http://www.callawaycars.com/

These are just a few examples of modern day "Carrol Shelbys" working on GM products...

another someone to think about is Matt Murphy at GMMG... while not as big as SLP, he's one of the tuners that did alot of custom work on f-bodies and made several 4th gen variants for everyone from Berger to Black to the Dick Harrell Camaros.

dont know about his possible involvement in the 5th gen, but I'd put money on him being interested, as he has made it to several of the f-body gtgs over the years and remains close to several of the GM folks who are working on the Camaro project.

Sweet! Thanks everyone for all the information. I've been digging around all these sites and seems like GMMG and Lingenfelter have some pretty cool packages. I'm also looking forward to what Roush may offer when the camaro5 hits the streets. I'm not too far from year one in GA. I had been playing with the idea of taking it to them to have it tuned. Not sure if they even do that. If they do, I'm sure it would be puh riiiisssEEEE

In the end all this thread did was make me that much more eager to learn what the engine specs will be. Half the fun is getting the parts list going...

Dammit :(
