A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

Buick is the most dependable car brand in the industry. Pontiac cannot survive without Buick and GMC. Ever notice how dealers are always (Whatever) Buick-Pontiac-GMC or Buick-Pontiac-Chevrolet? As far as Pontiac returning to an "excitement" division, when you get the money to do so, please send the check to GM. Thanks. Pontiac's future is G8 and maybe Solstice.

G6/Aura/Malibu are all Epsilon platform. Vibe is the same as matrix. G3 is an Aveo. G5 is a Cobalt coupe. The G8 and Solstice are the only cars that even make sense in Pontiac's lineup, and that may not be enough to save it...

Don't give up hope - there could be another GTO, based off the Camaro's platform. That's all hearsay though, I guess all we can do is wait and see what happens in the next few years.

I wouldn't hold my breathe. In fact, if Pontiac survives, it will be amazing.
GM MUST look long range, and right now, Pontiac is barely on life support. Maybe if things had been changed years ago, it would have been different. I could have seen a business case for axing Saturn a while ago (about the same time that Olds died) and giving Pontiac their product (along with moving the Aurora to Buick). But, right now it is too late for that. I think the a way to make Pontiac matter right now would be to ax Saturn and bring Opels and Holdens to the states as Pontiacs. The appeal would be limited but then Pontiac will only survive as a niche brand for a long time. Another would be to position Pontiac as the performance division of GMC/Buick/Pontiac. Tieing those divisions together would make them a sort of alternate Chevy. The important part would be to insure that the products were NOT simply rebadged Chevys. --Pontiac could deal with a lineup based primarily on the G8. Make a sedan, coupe (GTO), El Camino stype, and wagon. Think those cars on viable? They already have them. Check out Holden. --Buick would be mid level lux. Like they are being placed right now. There is a lot of good Buicks in the pipeline, both here and overseas (primarily in Buick China) --GMC would continue as they basically are but concentrate on full sized trucks. No toys. I know that went way beyound the initial idea of the thread but let's face reality here. GM cannot afford to simply rebadge again. The products from different division must stand on their own in order to make a case for keeping that division. The divisions that cannot make their own place must, sady, so the way of Olds, Plymouth, and other names we enthusiasts will miss. Sometimes life sucks, but GM is in the fight for their very life.

Kappa II hasn't been canned yet, so don't count out the above cars. Plus, other cars can be built on Kappa II, so we might see more cars that size.

No, Kappa is definitely dead. There probably won't be a Kappa II platform, it would cost too much.

I know Kappa I is gone, but haven't heard Kappa II being gone. GM needs to invest on same flexible platforms such as this and most if not all of the work was done on Kappa II as far as I heard. If I am wrong sorry.
