I guess it boils down to those who believe "the people" have a right to state what happens with "their" money and those who believe "the people" should just hand over the cash and get out of the way.

Sadly (in my opinion, at least), that may be an accurate picture of what's going on here.

Fair point,

Does that make the government the best entity to make product decisions and viability plans for a company like GM?

I don't think so.

Are the people being represented here? Or is this being done on be half of the government loans. Meaning, the veil of "for the people" is silly. Not that there is anything we can do about it. But, I think we all agree that the Gov. is not the best organization to keep GM alive. It seems they want to bend GM into the car company they want. Not what the consumer wants nor what is best for GM's survivability.

The other choice was to have a judge make the same decisions and they chose the government.

The backlash by the people in the handling of AIG sure caused the government to change direction. Do you believe the government should just hand over the money to GM and stand back?

Under the rule of LAW, I'm fine with that. Other than the bankruptcy laws aren't really designed for a company the size of GM. But that is the law.

The Feds are acting of their own accord which I don't like. I'd much prefer Bankruptcy than this.

Unfortunately, GM wasn't the best organization to keep GM alive either.

Personally, I think that is what all of this is leading to: Fire the CEO, fire the Board of Directors, put your own crownies in, ask for dealership concessions (which are impossible under current laws), offer warranty protection and supplier provisions and assurances. Getting ready to drop the Chapter 11 hammer if you ask me.

Just to clarify, See my edit, I meant to say 'the gov is not...'

In some way, It is better to get a bailout than a loan. At least with a bail out there is no way for the Gov to retract other than the stipulations of the bailout.

But the loan, which was sold as better for "the people" is actually working against GM, in that it is their excuse to micro manage the company...

Again, I undestand that GM has put themselves in this position. But, I still hold that just because the Gov can exert their power here, doesn't mean they are most qualified to do so.

In my opinion they are better qualified than the federal government. And I don't mean political party. I mean Feds. I've worked for the feds for over 15 years. They don't understand profit and loss, profit before taxes, marketing, revenue, etc. The Feds deal quite literally in monopoly money. They don't see the end to end flow of money that companies and corporations have to deal with on an hourly basis in most cases.

My opinion now. Question is, how are they going to force us to buy them? Rest assured, there will be "force" of some kind.
The won't force you to buy them, they will produce a ton of incentives/disincentives in the way of taxes that you won't be able to afford anything else.

Where is the Gov't quoted as killing the Volt. Please, dont quote FOX news, as far right as they come. Same as no one should quote CNN, extreme left...

Truth be told, its all a bunch of speculation... no one on this board knows what the hell will happen...
