Im thinking of buying a used 4x4

As the title states I kind want a 4x4 for winter driving as i dont think ill have too much fun driving the camaro in the icey conditions around here. Where i go to work it has a lot of hills and over the years ive seen plenty of rwd cars not be able to make up these hills cause there are lights at them. But anyways I also miss having a truck too and im not gonna spend a ton of money but only 2k or so on a 4x4. There are a few choices i want and or prefer.
1980's to 90's Big Blazer
1980's to 90's Big Bronco
same year chevy or gmc truck
So i ask if anyone has owned or do own these what do i need to look for to make sure im not getting a hassle and or a money pit I know what i have found most have alot of miles 150k plus on most of them and not in the greatest body shape I dont need a looker just something that will get me through some winters reliably.

Either one will make a good winter beater, but you have to be really carefull and have someone who knows 4wd's check the drivetrain. Downside will be fuel economy. A Jimmey or Explorer will give you better economy and are just as cheap. Avoid Bravadas as most old ones have issues with the transfer case.

you can never go wrong with a Jeep...i have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 and it is great in winter driving here in upstate NY. You should be able to find them fairly cheap as there were lots of them sold over the years. mine has the strait 6 in it and will probably run forever, they are very hard to kill.
