Wow, great deal. Too bad we can't get anything close to that in Canada.

This is not a small mistake. You can't put all your eggs in one basket and then complain when it turns out you picked the wrong basket. GM made a HUGE mistake in that regard and has continually made big mistakes.
I didn't ignore it...in fact, as you see above -- I acknowledged it head-on. And I never said it was a small mistake. My point...as it ever has been...was that Wagoner is not this idiot fuddy-duddy that many make him out to be. That's what kills me. Do I think the company deserves a new direction, and a new vision? Hell Yes....but ousting Wagoner....it just burns me up because he didn't deserve it.

It was more like 6, because gas flew up like the space shuttle, and took everyone, including the ill-equipped GM off-guard (see? I acknowledged it again.). From there on out, it was hit after hit after hit. The only reason they are in the situation they are in...was because they were vulnerable thanks to the ongoing restructuring costs.

I also want to take issue with the term "accelerated". Not a personal thing...others have said this, too. Is that to imply that if they weren't on their knees now, they would have been a few years from now? Nobody can predict the future, but that's just rediculous. Their cost-cutting programs were on schedule to allow them to turn a profit in 2008+. But when your sales get chopped down 30+%, and you don't have that income...it's hard to make any money. Not to glorify anything, but they got caught with their pants down, trying to do the right thing.

Camaro5.gov. Good one. Sadly it may happen sooner than you think! Remember all, Socialism....its just Communist lite. That did not refer to any political party but then it doesn't have to does it? More than likely this will become Greencar5.gov because that would be more politically correct. Personally I think you should put a spot on this forum to allow members a voice to the whitehouse to show their disgust at the government takeover of GM. Rush can probably do a song about a "inferno orange metallic SS/RS Camaro that my uncle kept"

Let it go.

Crazy...soon enough, the government will be running even more....scary. I think this is all very scary. Sure, there might have been a need for change...but, not by the governments say so...

Pandoras Box. could not have said it any better.... We are in for a ride on this one. Get your Camaros while you can...

Regarding politics.... The day we can go back to a civilized conversation where people actually know how to respect one anothers views and have a calm and polite discussion will be the day politics is allowed back on this board. The problem? It'll never happen. Waaaaaay too many people that will be on here thinking they can crack jokes about this and that...and when we tell them to fix it, they will actually raise their eyebrows and have this incredibly serious look of shock on their faces like, "ME? I DID SOMETHING WRONG???....Well...this is a free world and I can say whatever I want..."

Um....no. No...you can't. But, there will always be "this guy." So, for now, I'm sorry. As you can see, we are (so far) mentioning some political stuff already and not having a problem with it. .....no, wait...I see deleted posts. And now what do I have to say about that...

.....

Back on topic...

I hope and pray the government lets go of the reins and allows GM to re-take control. If they try to get any more involved, this is going to be a government run "private" entity. >..and anything government run when it has to do w/ our cars won't be good...IN MY OPINION.

Ahh - so an investor who sees his/her GM stock go from 25.00 bucks to 3 bucks in less than a year should just shut up and say nothing because he/she is a dentist, not a CEO of a car manufacturer? Just think of all the industry observer's who would be out of business!

No...That was just a response to your little remark about not working for free so you won't propose any marketing campaigns...it was sarcasm (I think).

But since you bring it up....he/she should cough up a new idea. Find out what's wrong with the company and propose an alternative. I'm sure valued stockholders have some sort of 'comment box'. If he/she is not informed...he/she has no right to get bitchy when the price falls.

For those who just buy a few shares to tag along for the ride...."know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em". I have no pity for anybody in the stock market...it's a game of risks. Cold-hearted, I know....

I think it would be better to say screw GM and give the bailout money to the people it belongs to. Buying this Camaro is a huge thing for our family. Maybe if we had some of our tax dollars back we'd be able to put more into the marketplace including GM. That could actually help the economy by all of us choosing to spend money instead of the government just putting a band aid on it as a temp fix and then expect us to still buy products with less money. Not political just my opinion.

Oh okay. FWIW - I've talked to GM people in marketing positions in the past and am quite willing to do it anytime.

You've kind of touched on something I would like to see which is offer ZERO federal taxes on any new car built in North America. I know many would like to say Big 3 cars only but that would run up against trade problems.

As I said Dragoneye, no one is saying that Rick Wagoner was the worst businessman in the world but what GM needs now is someone who's going to take an extremely aggressive stance and get things done immediately.

EDIT: Also, for the love of God working for $1 means nothing. You don't think he was given millions of dollars in bonuses and stock options instead? Of course he was.
