Lexus LFA sets new record on Nurburgring

Wish they had a similar track over here. Oh well gotta make a trip out there. I recently met someone who goes every year. Gets full insurance coverage on a rent a car and goes have a blast. Heard folks get killed, but a lot of without pushing the car or the drivers skill to the limit.

Sadly people do get killed there, indeed. Only last week someone died in a car crash, partially due to not wearing his seatbelt in the back seat, and being thrown out of the car (which rolled 3 times).

Difficult thing about the Nordschleife is that there are so many blind corners, there are lots of different tarmac surfaces, and well... some people do overestimate their skills (manufacturers pushing times faster and faster doesn't really help in my opinion).

That being said.. I'm looking forward to take the Camaro around there

too bad it's a 450k special edition car that is marginally better than a 120k Vette. the base LFA has only accomplished a 7 min 36 as of yet.

While I give that edition of the car it's respect, they're only building like 50 or something. Is it fair to consider that a production car, when the likes of a Gumpert or Aeriel (?sp?) are not included on the fastest car list? I think that's an arguable point, but I also admit I'm biased and am looking for something to justify why ZR1 is still not the 'King, lol.

I say it "counts" but is entirely unimpressive. the Veyron SS keeps the record of fastest production car despite only being limited to 30 some units.

give the ZR1 an aero package similar to the C6R to get the power down better and we could see another 20 seconds off of its current time. the LFA looks so composed around the corners and can just put the power down superbly due to the extra downforce. Meanwhile the ZR1 if fighting the driver and acting squirrely the entire lap.

Another excellent point

I thought there were aero' changes to ZR1, too... I totally noticed what you said though. There was just so much power that it seemed like it just wasn't sticking as good, dispite those tires. Still - for a $120K car to he humbled by an uber-limited edition half-million-dollar car is saying something.

sorry toyota.

yota couldn't even compete at the racing level in F1.

nissan has a history of domination
honda has won F1 championships
Ford has won 24 heur Du Mans
ferrari
Jag
Chevrolet
Astin Martin
Audi
Porsche

yota makes street cars.

There were, but there is a substantial difference between downforce on a street car & downforce on a racecar.

I didn't notice anything radical on the LFA but I haven't really paid much attention to it either. I guess they just put together a slightly better aero' package...

I give respect to the LFA, it is a VERY nice car. Not taking away anything from the run, damn impressive (though I do think it sounds like a weedwhacker), but I have to wonder how much time would be gained if the vette had a similar transmission?

The LFA Nurburgring most notably has a fixed park bench in the rear. there are other subtle things that they have on the front as well.
