Question... have any of you used CarMax or another place that buys vehicles on the spot?
I haven't ever tried them Deb.

Thanks hon

I want to sell my spare veh, and I know those places will low-ball the price.

On one hand... I grabbed an estimate from one online site and it was $1385 below Edmunds, and $2415 below KBB (which is bogus because it rates high anyway). The nearest Carmax is almost 100 miles away... kinda far just to go see what they would offer.

On the other hand... not having all the hassle of selling it myself is worth something. Although, more than 1K seems like a big chunk to pay for that.
Was just wondering if any of the gang had any "how best to sell a car" wisdom.

To me the only time it might be advantageous to sell to a dealer is when you are trading a car in on another car. That way, you also save the sales tax on the trade in value, so you are getting an extra 7% (or whatever the sales tax is where you live).

If you aren't trading in, then it might be better to sell the car on your own. I haven't done that for quite a while, but advertising in the local newspaper might be a good place to start.

Thanks for the input.

No, not trading it in. It's paid off and just want to sell. I can stick a sign on it, put ads in local papers, and maybe even on the board at local grocery stores.

The thing is.. not getting warm fuzzies about making my phone number that public. More than that, going alone with people I don't know to take it for a test drive. Maybe I'm being chicken sh** about the second one, but I didn't live long enough to be an old fart by being stupid about keeping myself safe either!

Like it.......it's hard to catch up with everyone sometimes.....

I went to CarMax once with a car......they didn't give me a very good price on it. The best luck I've had is with AutoTrader.com and a local Auto Auction. Depends on how patient you are.

Have to agree with you on the safety thing......that's why Autotrader.com is a good way to go, or an auto auction...just know the details about the auction before it starts

Thanks for the info on CarMax. Sounds like it would be about the same as the other place like that I checked. And thanks for the AutoTrader tip I'll check on that one.

You can take it to any car dealer and let them throw you a price, but it's time consuming, they'll want to go over it pretty good, AND they'll lo=ball you just like carmax.

Put it in craigslist and bump it every 5 days or so... Do you have a male friend that would be willing to help with the sale for a small fee? Let him do the ride-alongs and take the calls

Not sure if a dealer around here would take it unless it was a trade-in for another sale.

CraigsList scares me.. too many stories of scams & weirdos

None of my guy friends would have time to do ride-alongs. :( And I'd never in a gizillion years be able to talk them into taking the calls!

Of course we missed you Twisty And your absence was noticed.. I just havent been stopping in often enough lately to mention it.
