To stray away from the masses in an accord or civic:

For good mpg's you can go with an Acura Integra
For a fun sporty car you can go with an E36 3 series, maybe an M3 like ffr recommended
For utility and practically bulletproof transportation, a Subaru WRX

You'll never believe what I ended up buying... Two '88 fieros, one with 80k on it.. GT... beautiful shape!

now I have 8k to drop in for a 3800sc engine upgrade, body kit and paint job. Should be a fun DD. Perfect for winter. (thats a joke obviously.)

I'm going to run it in winter, but drive the truck anytime the weathers bad!

I stretched the body to make it a 4 door, but I swapped in the 3.6L DI V6 for fuel economy. Then I picked up a corvette body around the V8. I also swapped the body for a C2 Z28. (In short I traded it for three cars, a Corvette Z06r, a C2 Camaro Z28, and a Cadillac CTS Summer Performance package 3.6L DI with Aisin 6spd.)
