Very typical of what the extreme liberals of CNN and most other major News idiots spew.

All they're trying to do is to push people into doing what they want. It's a shame.

Also if we can afford BMW's I think we can afford the maintenance.

That's like saying to buy a Lamborghini but never at least see what it can do because it might break. Though I see where the guy is coming from.

To tell you the truth electric cars will be awesome for power but I really don't like the fact that it will be easier for people to copy the sound of a V8, V10 Etc. Just like that movie with Vince vanughne and James something where they work on the Electric Charger. I pray to never hear a V8 Honda.

That article was so incredibly biased that it disgusted me. No mention of other countries 8 cylinder cars, no mention that US automakers are also multinational. On and on ..

Just a note on oil prices. Russia, one of the top 3 oil producers in the world, has a 60% export tax on all oil products except gasoline, which is taxed at 90%. The future of oil prices is not looking so hot if these guys ever get to really control the price! But, Russians love big V8s and even V12s, and they still sell used Hummers at more than the last new prices in the USA.

I'd say in spite of gas prices, the muscle car is always going to have a place, and the ones with the biggest most powerful engine are the ones that will always sell the most. In the 70s, you could buy a Mustang II or a a low power Camaro. If either one of the big 3 would have offered a real muscle car, they would have outsold the others by miles. I think Detroit has learned that lesson! Let's hope so!

i remember when mucle cars had 185hp 350's, and 120hp 302's. when a cobra mustang had a 2.8 V6 and 3.55 gears. when a turbo 4 was far and away the best performer out there. it will happen again.

listen, all I can say is my wife's whole family are asian car fans. 3 toyotas, 1 nissan for her side of the family... I tried to convince the parents to look at some American models before getting their Altima, but no dice. But with my wife, the Camaro is speaking for itself. She loves the car. She loves how it sounds. She loves how it rides. She loves how it looks. And most importantly the car makes her happy to ride in. She really thinks its the best looking car on the road, and for the money I agree with her. If GM or any domestic wants to keep the muscle car around, they can, they just have to follow the formula they used for the Camaro. Make it beautiful, make it a great experience to ride in, price it right.

I would love it if Honda put something like this to compete against Toyota V10 powered LFA. Nissan/ Infinity/ Hyundai/ Toyota/ and Lexus all have impressive 400hp V8's now so why arnt they getting any coverage?

Honda was a leader of engine technology. But that was a while ago. Now their powertrains are at best on par with the industry average, and often a bit behind. I'm of course talking about their car engines ... I know next to nothing about their powersports motors or their small engines for lawn equipment & such.

The engine in that video is obsolete. Its for Formula 1, which no longer uses V10 engines. Speaking of which ... the LFA has a V10 because Toyota wanted to showcase its (failed) F1 efforts. But since it took them a decade to do the R&D by the time the car was ready to go, Formula 1 had switched to V8s.

If I had to guess why the Asian V8s aren't getting a whole lot of attention, I'd say its because nobody really cares. And I'm not sure what is terribly impressive about them either. They don't offer exceptional performance, or value, or fuel economy. What is left to be impressed about?

Strictly talking engines here

I am impressed with Hyundai's first ever V8 in a production car engine that puts down 364whp at 6,250rpm with only 5.0L's and through an automatic. Which is more impressive (to me) then what GM's 6.2L factory powered automatic Camaro's and G8's are putting the wheels and they have had a 55 year head start putting V8's in 4 door auto's.

But I do agree with some of your points.

Implying HP/L FTL? Most of the time automakers go with what is (gasp to auto enthusiasts) cost-effective and not necessarily with something that showcases their engineering skills.

They said the same thing in the 70s.
Then again in the 90s
Here we are again with the same story in 2011.

Will the performance V8 go away? We'll see what we are driving in 10, 20 or 30 years. The same geniuses told us that we would be in hydrogen powered cars in 20 years when GM introduced the first hydrogen powered vehicle back in 1966. And then there were the flying cars we would have by the turn of the century. And the population time bomb that would have us all starving before the end of the century.

We'll know what the future brings when we get there and not before.
