There's going to reach a point where fuel's prices and exclusivity will hit the zenith, and if it ever happens to be replaced by a far more efficient and eco-friendly alternative that is able to see mass production on a level similar to gasoline, then there will be nothing left to do but to squeeze as much power and grunt out of that new alternative fuel as possible, like a lemon in a juicer. It'll be just like what was done with gasoline at the top of its game in the 60's and 70's. Once the cost and exclusivity puzzle is solved, mankind's lust for power and speed will take over. That is what I'm patiently waiting for. :P
Electric cars, as an example, are pricey and exclusive if you want to get into performance such as a Tesla roadster, but once electric cars become more standardized, the technology will improve to a point where it will usher in a glorious repeat of the muscle car age where manufacturers, untethered by emissions or fuel economy standards, are free to make their sale over which has more horsepower. As for the sound... well, you win some you lose some but I'm sure they'll figure something out. Suffice to say, that's a long time down the line and most of us will probably be dead before it comes to fruition, but it'll eventually happen. Most people work their best under pressure, as sad as it sounds, and when gasoline's price gets so far out of hand that the day-to-day economy is ruptured, people will act. Until then, I'll drive my gas-guzzling V8 (which really isn't THAT bad on gas) so we can reach that point all the sooner. |

I chuckled when I saw the Suburban and Volt up there... Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Escalade way outsell Traverse and Acadia?? Everyone and their moms have Tahoes and Yukons. Seriously..

While I believe that pony cars will come with smaller engines in the future and will be smaller and lighter, that isn't a bad thing. The 60's pony cars weighed in at about 3400lbs and ran 125-400 horse. New ponies at 3400lbs with 4cyl 250hp, 350hp sixes, and the Z-28/Zl-1/GT 500/SRT8's runnning 700hp V-8's. There is no way in hell that pony car buyers will revert to 100hp Eclipses.

I think the Camaro, Mustang, Challenger are here to stay for the long run but I think we're down to the final years of them being V8 powered. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the biggest engine in the 6th gen Camaro is a V6. The good news is it will probably get better gas mileage and have equal or more power than the LS3 due to forced induction (probably twin turbo). V6 technology is big now. Just look at the power numbers for the Ford Ecoboost 3.7 in the new F-150's and the LFX V6 in the 2012 Camaro. The V6 Camaro power has increased 20 horsepower in just 2 years. The LS3 hasn't increased in power at all. Don't forget about the Chrysler Pentastar V6 too.

i dont think maintenance is that bad on a brand new one. got the warranty for a few years plus gas and oil shouldn't be a problem. plus people who buy a car like that is not really going to care as much. but i don't even want to think that far a head.

I'm all for turbo 4 and 6 cylinder Mustang's and Camaro's. The SVO Mustang's and Grand National's are some the the most valued and sought after American cars from the 80's, and the majority of the ones left are out there running 9 second 1/4's.
Turbo 4 and 6 cylinder Mustangs and Camaros will be hugely popular just as long as they start off with a stout engine like a 4g63 found in Evo's so us hot rodders can tune them up to run 9's in street trim. If some of you members have never heard of Ford's hot rod cylinder Mustang then go check the 2.3L SVO video's and 2jz Supra swap's. There are a lot of 2,200lb 800hp+ 4 cylinder Mustangs out there. |
