New Mexico

One of the guy's I worked with recently quit so I have to cover his area in New Mexico until a replacement is hired. Anyone have any ideas of what there is to do in Truth or Consequences, Alamogordo and Ruidoso?

BTW, I'm also taking the I-10 from Phoenix to the stores in New Mexico. My longest commute is 530 miles to Ruidoso so needless to say I should be on the commercial for commutes from hell.

Well since there has been zero response I'll take that as southern New Mexico is about as boring as barren as you can get in the continental US. On the bright side I found the phone number for the White Sands Range Control. Knowing when they are shutting down the US70 is required info for getting from Las Crucas to Alamogordo and Ruidoso.

I was gonna say that White Sands is interesting to visit (wear your sunglasses). You may also want to visit the Trinity Sight. If you're interested in driving a bit, you can head out to the VLA (Very Large Array) in Magdalena (think of the Movie "Contact"). Also Lincoln is a cool little town to tour (Billy the Kid was there). You've also got the "Smoky the Bear" Museum in Capitan and the UFO museum in Roswell if you want to travel that far.

By far the most unique thing to do is go have a look at "Valley of the Fires" state park. It's basically a highway cutting through an ancient lava field. Interesting...miles and miles of black lava flows. It's near Carrizozo.

Other than that, yep it's pure desert.

Yeah there really isn't anything to do around here. Boring as all hell!! Since you are going to Alamogordo, as was previously stated, you can check out White Sands. Ruidoso is a nice area in the mountains, and you can walk the shops or go hiking. Don't really know what there is to do there. T or C has Elephant Butte, and don't know to much about other things there either. I'm originally from Artesia, so I don't really go outside of straight there and back to LC when I'm driving. Definitely boring as hell, but you might find some awesome things to do. Sorry you have to come out this way though.

Oh, and depending on when you come in, some of the guys from the EP/LC Chapter get together in El Paso on Wednesday nights to hit the track I believe. So if you are here!!

Almost makes me wish I was taking the Camaro and not the work car. I'm in Alamogordo the 20th and 21st over night. El Paso is close by, I'll have to monitor that board you suggested. I'm always down to meet some Camaro folks especially when they are less than 2 hours away.

Originally from Artesia I feel so bad for you. I've spent five months there at FLETC bacl in '09....just about the longest five months of my life. Just a God awful place to be really, just my opinion :(
