I was going to mention that they did this back in the mid/late 80s as well.. all American manufactures did something to this extent... I recall all (dare i say the word) fords had the same style interiors. as well as power trains. it actually kept the comapanies alive back then when foreign manufactures were dominant.

Had one on my 85 Cavalier, used it several times on trips. It came in handy when the wife bought more than we could fit in the car.

Actually the 4.3 V6 was a very good engine in the full sized trucks for a long time I had 3 of them in full sized trucks and two in S-10 blazers it was a 350 small block with two missing cylinders. Same bore and stroke. Decent power and torque. But fuel mileage wasn't the best. They need a new design for the trucks now.
