Nope, you guys didn't get it.

You're on the right track with it being a military term though.

Here's a hint. The word for the situation you describe above is enfilade.

Ooh, ooh, what does this mean? I suppose "monocle" and "classified" have now been cancelled until we find someone who knows "défilade" to the OP's satisfaction. I, myself, have exhausted my paltry vocabulary resources. Texas2SS has done the same, I believe. We therefore await another as yet unnamed party to supply the coup de grâce.

To all of you vocabulary he-men and she-ladies out there on our fun forum, "Help!" we are drowning in our own self-indulgence.

I AM wiling to give it yet another try, though my tap tap tapping, as would a blind man with his cane, through the vagaries of my mind are tenuous at best, pitiable and infantile as we proceed.

Let's see: the prefix "Dé" indicates an undoing here, I believe. The "filade" is connected to a wending of paths. Perhaps by infantry, armored brigades, an airborne assault with multiple craft: gliders (à la WW II)
parachute landings, helicopters and their like. Could your word have to do with a mission cancelled, or re-routed, or even redirected along a different trajectory?

Nope. The word is of french origin, but it's an english word. You won't get it by trying to decipher the french meaning.

The best clue is the hint I gave you above.

It's a pretty common military term. I guarantee you've heard it in military movies.

Shoot me down, bro. The movies I watch are mostly in French or in Spanish these days, including the military ones, so that bollocks up the works a bit, doesn't it? Of course, I HAVE seen hella English language war movies over the last half century.

Okay, I'm dropping the French resources from my overheated mind. What's left? Well, from when I was in the furniture moving industry, we had bills of "lading" that had to do with shipping quantities of goods hither and thither. The "lading" had to do with gettin' the shipper's stuff onto our truck. So to extrapolate a tad, maybe your inscrutable word is somehow in some way implicated in OFF LOADING MILITARY VEHICLES, (as I mumble,"for crying out loud." inta' my beard, as elder men are wont to do when otherwise baffled by events.)

GREAT! This one is easy. It refers to the key ritual of the mass where the bread and wine of the communion are transformed, in the presence of the believers and their god, into the veritable body and blood of their redeemer, Jesus.

By the way, thank you for the new words for me to add to the rest of the words cluttering up my pointy little head, as my Irish father is wont to say.

New word: "Zenophobia"

Right arm! Now your word refers to trees, mostly, I think, that lose their leaves with the turning of the seasons. Did you know that there is one species of redwood originating in China that is deciduous? It's called the Dawn Redwood. I digress.

New word: "Orrery" We just upped the ante with this one.

Yeah, 17th Century scientific models of the universe as they then saw it then are pretty damn esoteric, ain't they? Sorry, you got me wound up with the défilade, I hadta' blow one off.

Okay, so here's a fair one now: "Nemesis"

None of you guys know what's meant by "Nymphomaniac"??

Alright, I'll tell ya'. Now, when I do you must promise to USE the word in the presence of other men and neighbors.
It is a pet name for your wives, sisters, and above all, it's the way you refer to your mothers.

Introduce your girlfriends using that word, and you'll be surprised how quickly your relationship will advance in directions you never expected.

New word: "ducklings".

"nymphomaniac" - the clinical term for someone who enjoys, is obsessed with, and/or is addicted to sexual activities.

"ducklings" - plural form of duckling; which is a baby duck.

New word: "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" (I am requesting the actual definition of the word, not simply a definition of the individual parts)

I remember a few eons back a discussion as to whether it is a word at all. It came up in court because Disney Corp. claimed it as its property; actual words cannot be property. I believe Disney won its claim in Civil Court, and there was an end to it.

VERDICT: Pick another word, or accept my restart word: "ghoul".

By the way, "Nymphomaniac" is a WOMAN who has an insatiable sexual craving; a woman who seeks out multiple sexual liaisons, often of the gang bang type. Like my mother-in-law and her disgusting ilk.
