That's gonna be a nice bmw 3 series fighter.

Just hope all the rumors about the zeta platform being too heavy were just rumors.

Love how squat and powerful looking it is.
ATS isn't on Zeta, its on Alpha

According to Hemmings Muscle Machines, the ATS-V is supposed to have a turbocharged v-6 making 376 hp. Sounds promising for maybe a mid-level Camaro?

Not really. It would cost as much as an SS (if not more). It would weigh as much as an SS (if not more). Perhaps it makes sense for those who feel the SS offers too much performance & not enough fuel economy. Other than that, I just don't see the point.

CAFE.....and GM is going to share the cost over as many platforms as they can. If this engine exists you can bet your a$$ that it will get stuffed in more than one model.

I posted it to simply give the V-6 guys some hope. If there is a factory turbo V-6 it seems likely that more HP is simply a pulley and/or tune away once it is produced.

Ask number 3 if it makes sense Negative Nancy.

You asked if it sounded promising for a mid-level Camaro. I don't believe it does, and explained the reasoning behind my position

Anyway ...

Of course it will be used in more than one model. The Lambda crossovers could make very good use of such an engine. So could a next gen Impala SS. I'm sure there are others too. I'm not saying there is no point to a turbo6, there is just no point in GM offering it in the Camaro as long as you can order one with a V8 instead. The best application for a forced induction engine is when its either not feasible or not possible to go with a larger naturally aspirated unit making roughly the same power. If GM still had big blocks, I bet we'd see them in the CTS-V, ZL1, and ZR1 instead of supercharged small blocks.

In order for this turbo6 to have a positive impact on CAFE, it has to displace sales from less efficient cars (the SS). But anyone who wants an SS probably doesn't care about fuel economy all that much. Certainly not enough to give up their V8s. So there will be a very small number of conquest sales there. Meanwhile, such a car does have appeal to potential V6 buyers. But it would be less efficient than a naturally aspirated V6 and therefore would have a negative impact on GM's overall CAFE score.

Is it possible to quickly get more performance out of a factory turbocharged car? Sure. But if more performance is what you want, why not just buy an SS for the same price (or less) as that turbocharged V6? And with that SS, you'll also get things like an upgraded suspension & brakes that would surely be exclusive to the Camaro Super Sport. Plus, there will be way more options in the aftermarket for a Gen IV V8 than there ever will be for a High Feature V6. And, unless it comes with forged internals, they're going to hit their upper limit for power a lot quicker than the SS will.

I won't bother Number 3 because he is very busy at the moment and hasn't been able to post on Camaro5 for a couple of weeks. But, from what I know when he's been talking about all that is involved in validating a new engine for a car, it seems very clear that there needs to be a significant benefit to offering a new powertrain combination. It would have to either attract new customers, or get more profit per sale from people who would have bought a Camaro with a different engine, and I don't see it doing either.
