Once a chicken farmer always a chicken farmer. What I don't understand is, why is she going right for the money instead of criminal charges if it isn't a scam?

1. Firstly, why did she go into Shelby's home?

2. Secondly, no one can force you to "run errands" . If she didnt want to go get alcohol and such, she should have said so

3. Lastly, like other posts here, after 6 years of being an employee, why come forward now?

That makes it all the harder for her to come forward with it.

Could she by lying? Sure. Could Shelby be a dirty old man? Sure. Neither one would surprise me. And without knowing either one personally, I can't say one is any more likely than the other. But I will say that I would much rather assume she is telling the truth and get proven wrong than assume she made it all up and get proven wrong. That might be just me though.
You beat me to it. You have the truth of the matter here. Everything you said was what I was about to type, so thanks for saving me the time.

She's going for the money not criminal prosecution. That says it all for me.
She better have some airtight evidence or she will get blown out of the water. Something tells me she does not and it's her word vs theirs. If that's it, she is gonna lose. Bottom line she wants money, not justice, at least that's what we know now and that stinks to high heaven.

For everyone asking WHY she didn't report the rape, you might want to read this excerpt from a study from UCLA.

"Rape affects one in seven women nationwide. Historically, most rape victims do not report rape to law enforcement. Research is needed to identify barriers to reporting and correlates of reporting to guide policy recommendations that address such barriers. We investigated the prevalence of reporting rape among a national sample of women (N = 3,001) interviewed in 2006. The study also examined predictors of reporting as well as barriers to reporting, concerns about reporting, and women’s experiences with the reporting process. Results demonstrated that the overall prevalence of reporting (15.8%) has not significantly increased since the 1990s. Differences were found between rape types, with rapes involving drug or alcohol incapacitation or facilitation being less likely to be reported than forcible rapes. Several predictors of reporting emerged in multivariable analyses. Implications for public health and public policy are discussed. "

As DGthe3 said (thought his post is gone), we don't really know what happened. My point is that we have a bunch of people here saying "why didn't she report it" as though EVERY woman reports a rape. What I'm pointing out here is that most people don't realize how many women don't report rapes, and it is actually quite common for rapes to go unreported.

Read the second paragraph in my quote of DGthe3. He states it quite well.

Everyone asking why she waited probably has no personal experience with rape/sexual assault victims. It can be devastating to the victims. I work in LE and a few years ago I had a middle aged woman, married with children who had only been groped by her neighbor. It took her 8 months to call and when I was interviewing her she was still extremely torn up about it. She still refused to prosecute.

The fact that victim's of sexual assault often dont report it immediately really hurts being able to prosecute criminally. Think about it, if this alleged victim didnt report it immediately, which she didnt, any phyisical evidence is gone. Therefore unless they do a wire on the actor or can get a confession, a successful criminal prosecution is going to be nearly impossible. On the other hand though, the burden of proof in civil court is much muuuch less than criminal, which i why she is probably suing rather than going the criminal route.

She should have reported the incident to the Police. Once that is reported, the victim goes to the hospital to proceed with medical exams and rape kit tests

The truth will eventually come out

I guess you are actually addressing those that question the delayed reporting.
That's all fine and dandy. I am not debating rape and the psycological aspect of that. I'm debating what we know in this case from that article and right now this stinks. Follow the money as they say.
