Exclamation 2011+ Mustang people. I need your help!

Ok here's the skinny. My brother is a big Mustang fan and is ready to buy a new 5.0. He's always bought used cars usually a few years old and this will be his first new car. While I would much rather he get a Camaro I know he really wants a stang but while doing some research he saw the issues with the manual they are having. Basically I want to know if anyone here has had any issues with their's and if it was fixed, if it's still an ongoing problem, and finally what is/are the best Mustang forum's to do my own research? (God I feel dirty )

any forum or concetrated area for a particular model/brand of car is going to have "higher" rates or claims of issues. the 6 speed from china has a few documented (youtube) instances of it having issues. I think the performance oriented folks are swapping out to a older trans that came from the 05-09 models or something like that. can't seem to go wrong with the new 5.0 motor though, a real strong runner.

I'll be happy to help.

I drive a 2011 GT with the M6 MT-82. The mentioned trans issues can be linked to the stock clutch pressure plate bolts backing out. This caused the clutch to not allow full disengagement leading to premature synchro wear in the transmissions. Ford realized the issue and has been using revised pressure plate bolts since early this year.

That said, I have not had a single issue. I replaced the stock shifter, clutch and trans fluid as a proactive step however never experienced a problem with the stock clutch or shifter with quite a few passes at the track with stickies.

My current setup:
RAM dual disk 9.5" clutch with aluminum flywheel
Barton shifter with deflection bracket
RP 75w-90 gear oil

It is the best manual transmission I have driven. Past manual trans cars:

2010 GT500 - TR6060
2010 Camaro SS - TR6060
2010 Mustang GT - TR3650
2008 Caliber SRT4 - Getrag DMT-6
1990 Mustang LX 5.0 - T5

My 2011 GT runs mid-11's and shifts like butter at the track. I am happy to answer any additional questions if needed.

the Auto is faster, some manuals have problems some don't. He should be more worried about the #8 cyclinder blowing on the new 5.0's when you tuning them, unless he wants to keep it stock. with the vct the new 5.0's have a global spark controller and some tunes are changing those parameters and it causes the #8(the hottest) cylinder to go .

No issues with my transmission. I think it was more of a problem with earlier production runs, but has been rectified now, like the Tremec output shaft issue.

Also, if your friend plans on modding/tuning, he needs to make damn sure he goes to a good tuner who knows what he's doing. Bad, second rate tunes have been destroying 5.0s. Ford racing has one that increases torque by 60 ft/lbs at 1500 RPM, and preserves the powertrain warranty to 3 years/36K miles. For the record, I've kept mine bone stock, though.

Disagree.....s197 is full of a-holes and idiots and you have to be a member to browse the sub-forums.

Jon Lund would be my recommendation for a tune. I would stay away from:

BBR
Brenspeed
Bama/American Muscle

Hey wbt, how's the dual disk in everyday driving? Any concerns and if you had to do it all over again would you use the same setup?

Thanks
