Hi all
Just a quick question, are NA diesel cars good? All I ever hear is turbo diesel, why? |

diesels work based on.... the diesel cycle as opposed to the Otto cycle for gasoline motors. the way diesel motors operate is by high compression and heat causing the fuel to ignite. there are NA diesels, but they are usually smaller in size. diesels are made FI for the sole purpose of cramming as much air into the cyl as possible and utilizing direct injection, fires the fuel at the exact moment needed prior to combustion. diesels use compression ignition compared to spark ignition like that of a gasoline motor. you can have a N/A diesel, but its not nearly as efficient. diesels are based of high compression... like 14:1, 25:1, and even higher in some instances. with the direct injection the piston is only compressing air until about 10* prior to TDC where the injector fires the fuel into the cyl.

actually the 7.3s arent all that bad. esp when compared to the 6.9.
either way UCI should add some "extra" injection on that beast

The only experience w/a NA diesel was my dad's '85 F250 with the 6.9. It was such a weird experience because it couldnt get out of its own way when unloaded and was exactly the same pulling a car or w/a load of cinderblocks. The load didnt seem to make any difference. Great truck though, good mileage for the size and never had any issues with it.

Did you say Power Poke or Flower Poke, all kidding a side the newer Ford diesels run pretty good. I have a 02 Duramax 6.6 and with one of the new Edge Attitude Performance chips, since my old Edge chip finally died. I have to say a diesel with 450HP and over 850lbs ton of torque is a lot of fun.
