Read the lease agreement. It will clearly state what you can and can't do.

I'm sure selling the car was not an option.

FYI http://www.fordcredit.com/redcarpetl...ease_end.jhtml

You can read all the lease agreements you want to. It just doesn't matter.

Blackthunder - Once you refinance the car, you will be stuck, your friend will NOT help in any matter. The trade value will sudden drop by at least $1000 if not 2.

The Chevy dealer accepted the car on trade, they can do WHATEVER THEY WANT with THEIR car. You have no responsibility for the mustang any more!!!!

I am assuming the chevy dealer had all information at the time of the original deal. When the dealer agent signed off on all the paperwork, they agreed to be responsible for the car, and agreed to the price.

To the rest of the internet crowd....if you have never leased, or are just plain ignorant of the facts, please refrain from giving advice. Post all you want, let everyone know what your opinion is, but stop telling the OP what his options could or should have been, or what he can and can't do with a lease. It lends itself to confusion. We all welcome your opinions, this is after all the internet, the source of all knowledge.

Shifty is pretty much the only one here giving accurate and factual advice here I'm sorry to say.

We take in leased (and modified) cars all the time in trade - INCLUDING Fords. We have never come up with an issue in getting the title from Ford. Ford does NOT want this car back - all they want is their money. Ford could care less about this car.

What has happened here is that the Chevy dealership realized one of two things:

1. That they gave you more money for the Ford than it was worth and now realize that they will lose money trying to resell it.

2. That there is an error with the new contract and they are trying to use the Ford as an excuse to change the parameters of the original contract.

I am no lawyer, but I am a New Car Dealer. That dealership is NOT having problems from Ford - all Ford wants is a check for payoff.

On your new paperwork:

1. Do you have a release of liability for the Ford?
2. Do you have documentation showing that the Chevy dealer is going to pay off the Ford to XXX.XX amount?
3. Does the new contract show the Ford as a TRADE-IN?

If you have all three of these, then it is completely on the dealership that took the car in on trade - NOT YOU.

Uh, how did you return a lease to a different dealership? That's where the problem is, you return a leased car to a dealership. Or did I understand it wrong?

Thanks for the support. Unfortunately, bad dealers have used the lease card when they need to "fix" their mistakes or, use it to extract more money from the customer because the customer doesn't read 10 pages of a 6 pt font contract. And even more unfortunate, the uninformed perpetuate these lies, and rumors and theories.

Like I said, I hate it when a dealer lies to a customer because they screwed something up and tried to intimidate or lie to a customer to fix the error.

I agree the dealer has discovered they forgot to figure in a payoff or a portion of something, and now they are in a pickle.

Why I never leased a vehicle....just reading this gave me a headache.

Good luck....but it looks like you're going to have to give that Camaro back.
Get your Ford back, take off the mods and give it back to Ford when the lease is done............than go pick up a Camaro.

Sorry to hear about that. :(

Make sure your publish the Chevy dealership’s name so people stay away from them and write reviews of them online.

There is more to this story.

People trade leased cars probably a thousand times a day. Someone is covering up something.

Either the dealer was not given all the information, or the dealer screwed something up.

misinformation is the key word and I doubt it is on the dealer's end.
