Oil, which one is better?

Real oil or synthetic? My family's TL needs an oil change asap.. I keep asking my parents but they don't know if we have regular oil or synthetic in the engine. I told them Im taking it to go get changed to synthetic. Is it safe to do so?

So mixing the two does not hurt the engine? By mix I mean drain then refill with synthetic.

Replacing conventional oil with synthetic or vise versa will not harm your engine.

I have no idea.

But some shops don't drain all the oil/put in less and don't replace the filter so just be wary of that and go somewhere reputable. If someone tells you $20 for 6 quarts of synthetic (assuming that's how much you need), it's BS for example.

BTW What MD are you going to fly? Are you actually going for your pilots license? I want to fly but people are saying the money isn't in Aviation anymore.

Oh my name is confusing and I apologize for that.

MD translates into Medical School as I am going to become a Cardiothoracic Surgeon (yeah, it's in about fourteen years but no big deal).

The Pilot is because I am going to have my Private Pilot License hopefully by the end of September at the minimum age of seventeen (July 1st birthday ).

I hope this answers your third question.

In regards to money being in Aviation, it is VERY difficult. You need to either know strong business people in the field or need to be committed to flying. Most individuals go through the Air Force to get their license as that is the cheapest way since it is VERY expensive to obtain a commercial license through a public route.

On top of that, the field is very competitive, so you are not even guaranteed a job. Yes, it does have perks and pays six figures, but the majority of pilots do not reach that stage until their fifties or sixties, and some airlines require that you retire at a certain age close to that.

It takes dedication to obtain a Commercial License and should only be pursued if you truly have a PASSION for flight (which I do not) and do not mind waiting many years in most cases to make larger sums of money (I do mind this).

This case is not for all people as some may create their own charter company in their twenties or manage to obtain a job as a commercial pilot around that age as well. These people, however, can probably be counted on two hands. It is VERY difficult.

I am not saying this to discourage you from pursuing it, but just want you to realize that it is not easy and it entails a large amount of work, hours, business morals/emotions if you want to be young and wealthy with aviation and most importantly PASSION.

It is possible and I'm sure you could accomplish this, but by no means is it easy.

Short Summary: It is extremely difficult to make money in aviation through a commercial license and is possible in other ways such as creating a charter company, but it requires A LOT of hard work, passion, PERFECT MEDICAL RECORDS and a very strong first-place personality.

Also, if you just want a Private Pilot License with no ratings, it can cost you anywhere between $5,000 and $10,000 depending on how hard you work and whether your instructor is there to gain hours to fly commercially or whether he cares about educating students.

You volunteer at Norwood? Nice! That's a great start.

Edit: Deleted information.

What happened to that big post? Anyways, I read it. I'm willing to work hard at what ever I encounter... I saw this on the back of a Vitamin Water paper once “Entrepreneurs are people who are willing to live like most won’t so they can live like most can’t.” It's stuck with me ever since. Now how would I go about meeting those pilots? Visit Logan? My school is in DOT so it's possible. Damn TS A though...

I thought it was innapropriate for a public forum as opposed to a private message if you want it. I also felt that I was being a bit intrusive in your life when I shouldn't be.

Meeting a Pilot? I unfortunately cannot aid you with that. You can call or visit Logan, ask them about any internship opportunities or Volunteer opportunities with a Pilot and go from there. You can also ask if you can meet with a Pilot during lunch and show your interest into pursuing aviation, but their time is very limited. You could call an Internship company and see if they personally know a Commercial Pilot if you are out of luck at Logan.

I just want to reiterate, however, that the money in Aviation is sinking and volatile.
