Drove a GT500 and a Boss 302 Today

All I can say is wow. I can't get the grin off my face. If the ZL1 is anything like the Shelby and more then we are in for one amazing ride. The Boss 302 is simply an amazing car. I had the privileged of driving it with the track key activated and the dump outs open and it sounded amazing. Kind of made you just want to sit there and listen to it idle. The power on both was mind blowing, and it took nothing to break the rear end loose on either car. Now I am Chevy guy and I always will be, but I wouldn't mind having either one of those cars in my garage. Hopefully we don't have to wait long for a Z28 that will compete with the Boss.

Are you comparing those cars to an SS or the V-6?

I have a v6 because of my long drive into work everyday. I love it and it provides plenty of thrills on a daily basis. However, I have drove a manual SS before, and it seemed like both mustangs had a lot more power to me. Now I know the ZL1 and Z28 are the cars that will be purpose built to compete with the 500 and the 302, so I will be very interested when those become available to see how they compare. The modern day mustang and camaro war is certainly giving us amazing cars to drive.

I have no doubt you enjoyed both those cars as they are VERY good cars...however that being said, it's apples to oranges.

The Shelby is a supercharged 550hp car and the Boss is a high reving 445hp car. The Shelbys will run you about $62,000 + taxes/PDI and Freight and the BOSS will set you back about $59,000 +taxes/pdi and frieght. A new Camaro is $25,000 cheaper...now take that amount of $$$ and pump up that SS and you will have a totally out of control supercar!

The ZL1 will be more in the Shelby league (most liely cheaper too) and eventually a possible match for the Boss will come out (perhaps the long talked about return of the Z-28)

I have always thought the Mustangs had the best sound over the years and I still feel that way. There is a Boss driving around town here and it's a dam sharp car, I think way better looking and less gaudy than a Shelby.

Lucky the dealer let you drive them at all knowing you were not a serious buyer!

Your lucky if you got to drive the Shelby GT500. The dealer around here won't let just anyone test drive it. Only serious buyers with approved credit.

I did not drive either through a dealer. Both were pre-production units. I don't think you can even buy a Boss yet. My job has certain perks that allow me to experience a lot of ford vehicles before they are available to the public. If I had my pick though, I think I would go with the Boss. It felt like you were driving an all out race car with the handling, power and sound.

R those canadian prices on the mustangs? How about $54k for the gt500 and $48k for the 302, maybe dealer markup on the 302 but not the gt500.

Yeah the Boss 302 starts around 41K and the Shelby around 49K. I'm sure there will be a lot of dealers marking the Boss up once they start getting them. I think the 302 is very well priced and you get a lot of car for the money.

yes, definitely the base 302 without a mark up is a hell of a car.

Ya those are CND prices and I also factored in options to take those cars to a 2SS level. Worked off the Ford Canada site. Just looked at a Shelby yesterday in our local dealership show room...$61,850 +taxes (yes we get hosed bigtime up here, despite the fact our dollar is worth more than the US dollar right now) Oh and dont forget I am paying $4.90 a gallon!!!

Sadly YES! So much for free trade between our countries! For a 2SS it's gonna run you around $45,000 MSRP but now there is some GM Employee pricing which will take it down to only $41G
